I personally feel that honesty is the best policy. However, being direct and hurtful are unnecessary. So, just be-aware of how you are saying things. I believe all humans desire and deserve respect. So, always keep in mind it is not what you say, but how you say it. Be gentle in speaking the truth. I do not like dishonesty, and i do respect and appreciate honest human beings. There should be more with this virtue! good luck and god bless.

Honesty definitely is a good virtue but too honest may come back with some adverse effect. My parent and teachers usually teach and tell me must be honest. We should be honest but we must think first what will happen should we tell the truth, will it hurt other people deeply or should we tell in a better way so that nobody were hurt.

When I was growing up, I was taught that it's not what you say, but the way you say it. From your post, I get the feeling that you could care less about how the things you say make people feel, which is a pretty crappy way to treat people.

From your post, you talk to your co-workers one way (direct), but talk to your boss another way, which tells me you give your boss more respect. Why not just show everyone respect? Actually, what you sound like is a brown-noser.

You need to understand that all people deserve your respect - not just the ones you see as deserving of it. And then you have the gall to suggest that all people should act like you do. If one of my co-workers came to work looking like total crap, I would never tell my co-worker "...you know, you look like total crap today." According to you though, not telling my co-worker what I'm thinking about his/her appearance that day would be "deceptive". True deception though, would be the fact that you WOULD tell your co-worker they looked like crap, but not your crappy-looking boss.

I'm glad I don't work with you...

I believe in being direct as well and with my boss would be no different.the truth is the truth regardless of who you are speaking to. By not being as direct with your boss and being direct with co-workers ,that makes you appear cruel and judgmental. The great thing about being truth ful in your words is that even your boss can't argue with it.Most times it's not what a person says it's how they say it.

Being tactful doesn't mean being deceitful. You can get your point across without being too direct, and at work, that's what you need to do. Especially if it's to the point where people are trying to make you aware of it. Saying the wrong thing to the wrong person can cost you your job.

It's not what you say, it's HOW you say it. People may be telling you what they think, but can do so in a polite, unintimidating way. If you are so direct with people, why not the boss?

No matter what happens or what others believe, you can never go wrong with the truth. Tell it like it is, people will respect you for it.
