It brings to the forefront the fact that THEY are not successful. It angers them that they do not have what the "rich" have, even though people with money WORK HARD for it. The libs just don't understand (or want to DO) the "work hard" part.
They think the "rich" should work and give their money to them...socialists - because they are lazy.
And when they yell "tax cuts for the rich" no way - why should I pay 39% of my income to the government while they pay only 15%? Is that fair?

Most liberals think all liberals are poor. On the contrary, had John Kerry won the Presidency he would have been the third richest man to ever hold the office. With a Whig and another Democrat ahead of him, at least one if not two Democrats to follow with the first Republican coming in 5Th.
BTW, our current President doesn't make the top 10. And you have to get down to the 6Th or 7Th richest Senator to find a Republican.
The point is, misconceptions abound in politics. If all the people who thought they new the whole truth actually did, something drastic would happen. I don't know what, but it would be DRASTIC. And I would bet the farm on that.

The liberals hate rich people because of taxes. They feel that the top 50% of wage earners should pay more than 96% of all taxes. A 5% income tax cut for everyone is a tax cut for the rich. I don't get it about why people want everyone to pay more taxes. Libs must feel that the rich should pay 99% or more of the taxes to support the poor. I am far from rich, but I pay way more than what I consider fair.

Liberalism does not equate to poverty, I am personally very affluent, yet like many of my wealthy friends and contacts believe that our privilege should not be at the expense of the poor. With wealth comes responsibility.
I can afford private healthcare, yet am aware that most Brits can't and therefore support my local hospitals, both through taxes and fundraising. Education is valuable beyond money, and I support my local schools.
Though not a very devout Christian, I am aware that 'love of money is the root of all evil', and as such I enjoy my wealth, and enjoy sharing it with those less fortunate.
It also surprises me that you regard George W as a success, he's a joke. Every business venture he touches, collapses, and his only success is in having been spawned by George Snr. Whoopee-do!
Being born into wealth does not make a man a success, using that wealth for the benefit of all makes you so.

People don't choose to succeed or fail. No one would ever CHOOSE to fail. Sometimes things happen in life that force you to make sacrifices. I think that people in lower and middle classes tend to dislike the rich because they keep getting richer while we keep getting poorer, and our government is doing nothing to prevent it. The gap is continuing to widen between the "haves" and "have-nots." It's no surprise that immigration from the U.S. to Canada has increased so much in recent years.

When anyone flaunts wealth to excess, while less fortunate have such a difficult life by comparison, it's hard to feel much compassion for anyone in that position. Lots of rich people do lots of good, but the likes of Paris Hilton is a big turn off for many, and yet the attention she receives is disgusting.

liberals do not hate rich people, liberals do not like corrupt people who trapple others in order to get further ahead. Liberals usually have a view of a greater good, which some rich people tend to go against.

I'm not a liberal, but I am not a fan of rich people. I teach in a very wealthy school district. Most of the parents spoil their kids and interfere with the teachers. Kid gets in trouble, the parents immediately side with the kid. I remember when I got in trouble in school, my parents first reaction was, "What'd you do this time?"
I notice that this behavior is more linked to old money than self-made wealth. (For those who don't know, old money refers to people who have inhereted from wealthy parents or favorable divorce settlements, rather than working hard and earning it themselves.)
