i am 23 years old and my period is very irregular. im lucky to get it 4 times a year. i really want to have kids in the very near future but i dont know if being so irregular could cause me to be sterial . i dont have any health insuance at the moment other wise i would go to the doctor. i was also wondering if anyone knows if you can go to a free clinic and get birth control. i know that is supose to make you regular, i just dont know if its too late, or if i can never have kids. if any one one has any information, please let me know.

Some women are naturally predisposed to having irregular periods. I wasn't regular without birth control until I was in my mid-twenties (I think 25 or 26 was when I had a reliable period). Being irregular doesn't mean being sterile - not at all.

If you go to a free health clinic...you can tell them you have infrequent PAINFUL periods and even without saying painful - they will likely give you the pill.

Womens bodies should be regulated - we have periods for a reason - so go and explain that you've got this issue and see what happens.

Also - weight has a lot to do with periods. If you are significantly under or overweight, that can wreak havoc on your hormones. So gain or lose as necessary...sometimes it only takes a small weight loss (if you are obese) to get your body back in line.

Best of luck to you!

Yes. I agree. Try Planned Parenthood. They may be able to help you get birth control, but you may want to try going to some type of free clinic to get checked out first. You need to find out why you are only getting your period 4 times/year.

irregular menses doesn't indicate sterility. That you have menstrual cycles at all indicates that there are indeed times when you are indeed fertile. Female atheletes often experience the same problems. I would not consider pregnancy tho until you do have health insurance so that your health and that of your child can be attended to.

Yes, go to planned parenthood. They can help u. We would be unable to tell u if u will have fertility problems. That is something only a dr could do.
