Airline may be most expensive, but, a lot faster and stress free. Sometimes you can get a pretty cheap ticket by booking in advance and flying at any time, usually Tuesday-Thursday.
Bus is probably the cheapest and slower. Also, more stressful. When you ride the bus, they sell tickets, but, not promise a seat, it first come first serve, but, if they not board you, they try to get you on the next bus. When you get to a main terminal you may change to another bus, or, they may clean the one you on. So, everyone has to get off and wait, though they do re-board those first who were already on before boarding new people. You can carry luggage under and have a small carry-on bag, take munchies and drink, maybe a small pillow and light blanket, it can get cold with the Air going!!!! Sometimes they do stop to eat.

Wow, there is a loaded question. Basically bus is cheaper but will take a long time to travel that type distance. The plane is faster and can be priced right if you can book in advance. Another option to look at is train. At least in that method you can look at the country along the route.
For a guy like me I would look at the cost vs what my time is worth to the working world. If you make X number of dollars an hour, is there a price difference when you add in the cost of the tickets that makes it better for you. For instance -
say you make $15 per hour (just a number here gang.) and the bus trip would take you 26 hours. That means you spent $390 in man hours plus the price of a ticket. Figure $590. I am just guessing on a ticket price here. Now if you flew it would take 6 hours, and that is $90 in man hours plus the cost of a ticket. So guessing you got a ticket for 400 bucks or so then you are out $490.
All in all you have to ask yourself what is the situation you are in. What is the time frame you need to be where you are trying to get, and finally do you have enough advanced notice to book a plane flight for a better price.
Wish I could be more helpful.

Greyhound is cheaper but it's got 3 to 5 hour layovers at some cities along the way and the restroom on the buses are gross for the most part and sometimes they are crowded and the people are sometimes rude and nasty. Flying would cost you more but in the long run it might be better for you. You alone know what you can tolerate. Call greyhound for the bus schedule for where you want to go and then make your decision. Either way have a safe trip!!!

Fly! I went from Louisiana to California on a greyhound. I don't care if it costs $1, I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever do that again. There is no words to explain the weirdos(I sat next to someone who just got out of prison after a 20 year sentence for murder) and the torture of sitting on a bus with them for 3 days straight. Buses are for short trips in the city, not cross country, permanently traumatizing trips.

The bus is always less expensive but it will take at least two days to make the trip. The plane will definitely cost more but it should only take a few hours. I value my time so I would always fly.
Have you considered a train, the cost should be in the middle and it should only take a day.

I would FLY, and you can find a relatively good price. I once took a Greyhound from Tennessee to Ohio, It took 18 hours. I was 15 sitting beside a middle-eastern man who had a heavy Garlicy-Curry smell on his breath. I have4 been traumatized ever since..LOL...Dude , I would definitely Fly...JetBlue is great and southwest...Good luck...
