it's a great way for babies and toddlers to communicate. Most of the reasons they get so upset and throw tantrums when they are little is becasue they can't tell you what they need. if they have a sign they can make to show you want they want, everyone will be much happier. You can pick up baby signs books in any book store or amazon.com even if you pick up a regular sign language book, show your baby signs for things they do - milk, more, ball, cat, boy, girl, etc.
you will defintely see a big change when they can express themselves.

Signing with babies is great. There are plenty of books on it. At first when you start you'll feel like you're training a circus act, but after a while the baby starts to understand that they're communicating, and it gets easier. I found that most signs wern't all that important or useful, but Food, More, All Done, and Bed were helpful. I'd start with those basics, then move on from there.

i did and still do he is now 3 and i loved it he could tell me what he wanted before he could talk, and it didn't slow his speech he would sign and talk at the same time. his pre-k teacher says his speech is unbelievable that he is like a walking dictionary. I borrowed a book called "signing for children" there are many books just find one that don't make it hard for you to understand. some make it look really hard and it's not. there have been studies done that show children who sign have higher IQ's my son has had a few developmental test and is at the age of a 5 yr old and just turned 3.
also just like speech there are different dialects with sign

I plan on signing...what I can learn. They are able to communicate that way before they can speak. If you teach them to sign "more" for instance, when they want something they can sign instead of grunting annoyingly. They are so well mannered. My sister-in-law's sister did it with her 7 kids and they are great! She used the entire Growing Kids God's way system. I think signing is part of that. But you can get books that show various signs commonly used with babies like milk, sleep, bed, etc.

We did minimal signing with are little one. Example: I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, Sleep, Potty.
It helps, but we didn't want to do to much signing. My friends child could sign almost anything and due to the fact that he could sign he refused to speak. I think its OK in moderation, but the risk of slowing your child's speech development is there. I don't think signing makes your kid any smarter then the next kid.. Do some have fun with it, but don't get carried away.. Good Luck
Hope this helped

First the baby must learn to talk and realize it can. I had a grandmother who was a mute. My cousin lived with her and had a baby. Everyone signed to gram, so the baby never realized he had a voice, and everyone though how cute it was that he could sign. No one payed much attention to the fact he never talked, they just though he was a mute also, until one day at school he uttered a word and then he had to be taught how to speak....

growing up i had a friend that was death. she taught me how to sign. i heard what they said about teaching babies and that they could even sign before they talked. i was skeptical. but i tried it and my baby then six months was able to tell me when he wanted a drink or what toy like a ball that he wanted. i found it rewarding and he spoke earlier then i thought he would too. that was my first and i am now working ( pregnant ) with number three. i think that is good for them to know how to sign. it like another language for them to learn. good luck and i would suggest american baby sign. good luck .

I know someone who does that, and her kids now know sign language, Babys will communicate sooner with signing, because they can sign before they can talk.
(I actually sign with my dog, because I hate to yell)
