Because when he fired up the engines and shot out of the worm the Imperials locked onto his signature again. By then he had lost the element of surprise and the fleet was all over the asteroid field not just him racing away from the leading scouts.

More importantly; fellow answerer: how can Han Solo be 'spaghetti western'-esque, when he's not in an Italian film?
I like the idea that he's been spotted by the fleet and has to leg it.
That or the "Hey... it's me!" answers followed by the over eager grin.

Well for one thing he Is Han Solo. He prefers a fair fight to sneaking around. Remember? LOL. No Really. He's Han. He doesn't like to sit around all day. he had an empire to fight.

a) there were no other asteroids big enough to hide on.
b) the Falcon's engine signature was detected by Star Destroyers now in the Field: notice that as Solo is leaving the Field, he has a Destroyer right on his rear.

because he's han freaking solo, the quintisential spaghetti western bad ***, if hge went and hid, he would not be the snakrky quick shooting jerk we all love. plus, wouldnt that be a verry boring scene?

He had to make repairs to the falcon(hyperdrive), which is why he goes to the Lando system (landos not a planet he's a man, we go way back)
