Congratulations on having your baby! Sounds like you're concerned about the after effects, however. If you're worried at all, just check with your midwives about what to expect and they can check out your particular situation.
From what you've said, it sounds normal. There is such a huge range of what's normal postpartum.
Your period may be delayed if you are exclusively breastfeeding but if you know your cycle, you will be able to monitor the onset of fertility before your period starts. It's possible to have periods without being fertile and possible to be fertile before having a period. A good website to check is http://www.woomb.org/ to learn about how to monitor your fertility.
Good luck!

That sounds like pretty normal post-partum flow fluxes, however, going over a month pp seems a little lengthy. Have you been resting up and not over-exerting yourself? Getting back into a pre-baby routine too soon or getting too active can make your flow come and go, much like you're describing. The color sounds very normal, just like a period, lochia slowly diminishes transisiting from red to brown.
If your breastfeeding on demand (no supplements/pacifiers/through the night etc) your period should not return this quickly. I'm not sure how quickly menses return if your formula feeding though, maybe some of the Mammas here might know.
At any rate, I would tell your post-partum doctor about your concerns, better safe then sorry :)

It's really hard to tell your first period if it comes close to when you are having post partum bleeding. I bled for about 3 weeks (getting lighter as time went by) and then stopped for a week. After that I had bright red bleeding I took to be a period. But I don't know that for sure. It's hard to tell because you have cramping during post partum bleeding, and I wouldn't trust my hormones enough to say whether it was PMS or just normal new mom hormones.
I would bet your discharge will stop soon and then if you aren't breast feeding, you will have a period in about a month. If you don't and there is no logical reason like breastfeeding to stop your period, you might mention it to the doctor.

This could be considered normal discharge. If it has a sharp odor, you are in severe pain, or running a fever, I would worry and go see a doctor. If it's just the discharge, its your body cleaning itself out and perfectly normal.
Your period, when it returns, should be very similar to the ones you had before giving birth. It may be stronger, or last longer, since your body has now changed.
Congratulations on your new little one!

after i had my son, i bled for about 2 weeks...then i didnt get my period for well over 2 months...i got a check up and everything...after having a baby, your body is getting rid of all those extra horomones and your system does seem out of wack....i had some periods the first year after he was born that were so heavy, i had to sleep with a towel under me at night...somedays they looked like a light pink color...
i forget when your post partum check up is but you should call your GYN to talk about it....
