how can i open a bank account?

i have been in the country for only 1 month and i went to the bank to open an account and was told to bring sumtin bout bill payments when i avent paid any bill and the other option was for me to get a provisional driving license , but the problem now is dat i need 2 open an account within a wek or else i wil starve 2 death, plsssss hlpp

i have showed my passport and also showed a letter from my school to the bank with my address on it.

i need the account mainly for cash transfer from my country

the reason why they are asking you for a bill payment receipt is they want to establish your address, since you have not paid any, if i am not mistaken, a letter or postcard addressed to you will also do. Now if you really cant show them anything as proof of address, maybe you can ask whoever will be sending you money to send it first through money order(i do not know what its called in London) then you can claim that using your passport and any other identification papers you have with you. i hope this rules are followed in the country you are in right now.

hi. you require 2 forms of id to open a bank account. some of them are-photo passport, certified birth certificate, foreign driver's licence, letter of introduction from the embassy or your bank ( your country), photo employee id card. there are a few more. best thing is contact customer service(not the branch, they are not very helpful) of the bank and ask them what are the list of acceptable id's to open an account. the above id's are accepted by CITIBANK and these are just a few. call 800-627-3999 and get the complete list. hope u get a bank account soon

are you applying for benefits if so they will give you id such as insurance number and proof of address you will be getting your mail or giro , then join the library with the mail they send you, you will then have three ids and or ask another person with a bank account at same branch to vouch for you or open a post office account first and then use that card to open Bank account also, any help?vivr

The bank just need evidence that tends to prove that you are who you say you are and that you live where you say you do.

Your passport will do for one thing, utility bills are usuually requested for the other. Have you had a phone installed, do you have a rent book or rental agreement? Any documentation showing where you live should do.

u will need a social security or tax id #
if not a citizen there is a form from IRS to get a tax id# for non citizens for banking purposes.
although u haven't paid a bill you may have already received mail.
show any mail you have received with your address

does't matter freind, you can got the info from bank where u want to open account, which docs are required for open a bank account, Bank will advise and you can follow the instructions, if ur docs are neat & clean or in order required by bank then it may procees within days. then u can enjoy with your money.

The bank just want you two main things: your personal profiles and approve of your address.
Do you get the NHS card? It also can be used for approve of address. If no, just ask the utility company to approve you are living here.

you will not starve to death , get real, if you need a bank account , then you must have money to put into it , I assume that you are in the u.k. , if so you are probably getting some kind of social security , you take this to the post office and they cash it for you , if you need more money SELL YOUR ROLEX

What the bank is asking you for is proof that you are who you say you are. Take your passport, any government ID's or papers you have with your name on them just to prove to the bank that you are you.

just get a proof of I.D like ur passport and go to ur local bank. i think you need proof of bills...if u need it urgent just tell em u dont have any bills....
