I've just bought TDK dvd-r which is slightly expensive, are they any better than the not so famous ones, in terms of quality?

Burners do play a factor in it but all in all, they should still do their job. My burner is a really high-end one that can read-write anything. Sometimes there's a difference in the discs. But it's not really the brand. It's more of the quality of the work. Someone mentioned Memorex. Memorex is usually a good brand. However, when it's a bad model, it's usually the one that goes on sale. I've had that happen with... Memorex. I had two 25-packs of them. And they were on sale. But, half of them were made into coasters (unusuable media due to error-write and that's what you might as well use it as... a coaster). It was rated for 16X but I had to burn at 4X because of the coasters. Pay close attention to whether the store is just having a sale on them or if they are closeout. If they are closeout, don't buy them. That usually means it's a bad model and need to get rid of them. Companies don't generally pull different models from shelves for a lo-ong time. So, if you find a certain model of a brand that works best for you, stick with it.

I find that the brand is not the important thing but the burner. Some brands will work with some burners yet not others. It is really trial and error with your burner to find the the one that gives the least problems. More expensive brands will give a slightly better chance of working with your burner however you can find cheaper ones that will work equally as well if you are willing to try a few different brands.

Some of the online retailers will sell packs which contain different brands so that you can try them before you bulk buy.

No one made any scientific observation in this. Although I have no trouble with any of them.

Although from experience avoid blanks from Sony like a plague. Don't know why it fails especially being a big brand. Perhaps they are engineered with Sony's own burner in mind.

Some people really had burner as the culprit of the problem mistakenly IDs the blanks as their problem.

Yes. Some of them don't like to work.

Buy memorex or sony

Avoid the generic ones. I think TDK should be fine.
