I heard someone say it just the hair of the dog...I don't know what it means. I may be spelling the 'hair' part wrong.

The phrase "Hair of the Dog" is predominantly used to refer to imbibing an alcoholic beverage to cure a hangover, although it has seen limited use with respect to other drugs. The intent in so imbibing is to lessen or postpone the effects of the hangover, or the withdrawal from that drug. It is a shortened form of the phrase "The hair of the dog that bit you".

An alcoholic beverage consumed as a hangover rememdy. The phrase comes from the expression "hair of the dog that bit you", meaning that the best cure for what ails you is to have some more of it. In ancient times it was literally used to say that if a dog were to bite you, putting the dog's hair into the wound would heal it. "Like cures like". This hangover remedy is not recommended because a) it leads to a bad habit of drinking during the day and b)it doesn't really work very well. Still, this method works about as well as most other hangover remedies.

In ancient times, the cure for an affliction was to use some of the thing that caused the problem.
If bitten by a dog, some of the hair from that dog was put on the wound as a cure.
Therefore, if hung-over, application of additional alcohol could be efficacious. thus "the hair of the dog that bit you"

when you've been drinking and you wake up the next morning with a hangover people often say have some hair of the dog so have another drink (alcohol) to get rid of the hangover

It means if you have a hang-over you need to drink a little of what you got drunk on ( "the hair of the dog" ) to help you recover from the hang-over.
