When I returned to school and did an essay for my scholarship, I focused on how returning to school would make a better life for myself and my family. I specified what struggles I had gone through in my career (a lot of downsizings) and how I felt returning to school could help me to get into a better paying job.

While your circumstances are probably different, I would focus on why you want this education and how this will make your future better. What do you expect to get out of your college experience.and how this education will help you improve the world around you (if applicable).

Most importantly, before submitting it, have someone who is good at writing proofread your essay to ensure it's well written. They could also give you some pointers on how to improve it.

Good luck to you!!!

Do a search on the net for successful college essays. Do not copy any of them -- but look at them for ideas. The following link is one of many that came up with I googled "tips for writing college essay"

Do not stress what you will get out of going to that school -- but what you will contribute. Have someone you trust read it over when you are done. You want to make sure that the grammar and spelling are correct.

You need to be direct and coherent. Don't go off on any strange tangents. Someone in my MBA class was telling me that he had applied to about ten of the top MBA programs in the US (he was from England). His essay was this meandering tale of all the things he wanted to do with his life. He was rejected from all ten schools. He then showed his essay to a friend who helped him rewrite it. He then applied to most of the other schools in the top 20 -- and got into almost all of them. The lesson: your essay is critical.

Meaning, they look for individualty too! imagine yourselfas an admission rep. reading hundreds of essays wouldnt you want someone who is unique in his or her writing something that takes you away from all the tedious writing
