Well I gave my brother an old laptop that was working. He broke it enough to claim for a new one :)
Most important is that the screen has to be dead. Open the laptop and hit the side of the screen on a table edge. That should be enougn. It the screen still works, hit it again :)
Second is the harddrive. Remove it and press down hard on the silver side of the drive. You should hear a small cracking sound as the spindle pops.
there you go. One dead laptop.
Other way is to drop in in a sink, bath, tub of water while running on batteries. It'll need a week to dry out though.
Oh and don't bliame me if your laptop stops working for some strange reason ;)

Oh I've done this so many times it's an art form.
If your laptop requires an external transformer from the mains just remove the transformer and plug the laptop directly into the mains socket. The mains will be fine but the laptop will explode (in a small way). I did this once truely by accident think the laptop had an internal transformer and it didn't. Melted most of the internal soldering. This is because of the rated 12v rated current it got a 240v kick.

There are 3 things that need to be permanently broken.
1 - Hard drive and data in it.
Dropping laptop several times on carpet will permanently damage the hard drive without breaking the plastic parts, and it will not boot up. But it's still fixable.
2- Motherboard (main electronic board inside laptop)
Sinking the laptop in water while it’s running on battery ( turn it on with battery and go to BIOS), and letting it get dried gradually will permanently damage the board.
3- LCD
LCD will not be usable but it might be reparable by replacing some internal parts like invertors.
Now the only thing that might still be good, be used as part, is its plastic parts. That is up to you how to break it. Hammer will work

Where do you live? I used to support a company that issues laptops to sales people and here are some of the excuses i heard. Leave it in the back window of you car and roll up all the windows (this works well in Texas) it melts it. Knock a big screen tv over on it. Put it on the front seat of a car and then wreck the car. Put it on the front seat of a truck and abandon the truck on a railroad track.

You will have to physically tear the thing up. Otherwise it can always be repaired. Some parts can always be replaced. You could always open it up so that the motherboard is exposed, then carry it into a room with thick carpet. Rub your feet around on the carpet for a bit, then touch the motherboard itself. Repeat this process a few times.

Spill some water over the keyboard. Make sure the laptop is not plugged into the mains electricity when you do it.

Drop it in the bath, let it soak, pop it in the freezer.
Hey presto, secretly destroyed my exes beloved laptop for cheating on me, he just thought it was broken, bad karma and all that?! x
Unless you're doing it to hide something you have on the computer which is bad, if that's the case I hope it doesn't work for you and you get whatever you deserve.

Do you have that Best Buy warrantee by chance? LOL. Accidentally drop it. Once I was working and had mine on the top of my car. I accidentally drove off and forgot it was there!!! It fell in the street behind me and I saw it in my rear-view mirror. That was one of my more brilliant moments!!!

Easy. Do what I really did accidentally and leave it running when you put it away in its case. It overheated and now won't boot up at all. Very stupid of me but probably solves your problem anyhow!
