you can buy tickets in the station like in the rest of Europe. Nevertheless I would recommend making reserves a few days ahead of your departure. check out www.bahn.de (Unfortunately only in German).

it quite is slightly frightening around the prepare stations at evening once you do no longer understand the section, yet public aspects in Germany are ok patrolled and monitored by police and secure practices team. on the trains you may no longer have any complication. shop all your assets in one place the place they might't be interfered with without waking you up. it quite is totally no longer liable to ensue, yet no longer unknown. your very own secure practices should not be a controversy. while you're very worried, you may e book a private dozing vehicle - in the present day of 365 days you will probably locate the trains are tremendously empty. I even have never heard of a tourist being killed on a prepare/ in a prepare station. The worst i've got are available the time of replaced right into a stolen wallet or backpack. The streets and trains would be quite abandoned on Christmas Day - maximum folk have fun at residing house. i does not be too worried nevertheless. Germany is probaly the main secure place I even have ever lived.

I was a tourist in Germany last summer for six weeks and it was easier for me because I had a eurrail pass and it was so much cheaper because I saw the price of the tickets I got and without it I would never have dared travel last minute in Germany. And I agree sometimes planes are actually cheaper to travel through Germany but I preffered seeing the country by train and it had loads of kodak moment views.

There are different methods to buy a ticket inside the train station.

1st. Ticket counter, in big stations, at least one staff will speak English.

2nd. Old Vending Machines without touch screen, usually white/grey- There is a list with many stations on the machine. Enter the number on the list into the machine and insert the money. If there is a button, showing a flag, you can switch its language into English.

3rd. New Vending Machines with touch screen - usually red/blue
Press the "English" or "Language" button on the touchscreen and click "buy ticket".

Good idea!!! It's the best... but don't expect that a reserved seat will be honored as such...lol... Just get there and have Euro and you are good to go. It's very easy actually... once you are there, you will be surprised how simple it is to purchase a ticket and more people are willing to speak English now.... most people are willing to help you.
