It's a pity that he doesn't live in Amsterdam. In a nutshell, it should still be allowed in bars, at the very least the option should exist to have a smoking bar if the owner wants it that way. Then, all the delicate little flowers can go to a non-smoking bar and feel very moral and self righteous. The old man you refer to probably can't understand why the country has become so illiberal and nannying. Pubs/bars existed for people (mainly men) to have a pint, a smoke, and generally put the world to rights. What we are experiencing today, particularly banning smoking outside, is intolerant and vindictive. I have never heard of a smoker beat up an old lady to feed his/her habit.

Fizz thinks he's been smart, but the vast majority of smokers don't develop any debilitating illnesses, and the majority of those that do, only do so in later life. You have to die of something, and you can only die once. What business is it of anyone Else's anyway. They pay a fortune in tax and wont be collecting the pension for as long. Also, they are usually a lot more sociable than those who are obsessed with their own health. Incidentally, passive smoking is pseudo science bullshit.

He should live up in Scotland , there is a 'blanket-ban' from smoking in ALL enclosed spaces and there is NO middle ground. To my mind , the politicians have not taken into account people's individual circumstances (i.e the elderly) who most probably have smoked all their days , another rubbishy political correctness attitude. It's fat or tubby people who are getting it now , who next????. Bollocks!!!!

There are pro-smoking groups out there dedicated to preserving the right to smoke in public places, if that is what you mean. I don't think there are groups dedicated to getting people to just go on smoking.
