America has had its financial supporters of the IRA, not only financial but moral supporters, ditto a lot of Brits morally supported the aims of the IRA.
So did people from many parts of the world.
If some country has taken over a chunk of your home land what are you supposed to do , just accept it?? Would you accept Germany taking over any part of UK?
And if attacking foreign troops on your home land doesn't make people listen you will do the next thing, attack the enemy home land!
The allies bombed many German civilians long after the war was known to have been won! Was that OK??
I don't know why some of your answers say the IRA ceased operations because of 9/11 whats that got to do with anything between the Brits and IRA?
I have for many years thought the Brits had no right to be in any part of Ireland, the Brits have been poking their unwanted noses into many parts of the world, for generations, and had their a55s kicked out of most of them.
I was actually in Birmingham UK on the night of the big IRA bombing, my parked car was smashed up with falling concrete, I saw people being carted away some dead lots injured, this didn't change my opinion of the IRA! I knew this was also happening in Ireland, innocent people were being killed, thrown out of their houses and abused by Brit troops! You dont think this could happen?? Wise up!!
There is a great film soon to be released showing the atrocities committed by the British in Ireland, I dont suppose you would want to see that would you?? You may catch both sides of the story!! That would never do would it?
Who do you suppose the Ulster (Paisley) mob got their funds from??
Wouldnt it be nice if you lot could leave well alone, and( if the Ulster mob allow) let matters go through the democratic proceedure, any true Irish will vote for the ex IRA in future elections, the Brit loving Ulster mob will of course continue to believe they are some sort of English!! Much to the disgrace of the rest of Ireland! So be it!!
Why are the Brit troops still in Ireland the IRA have no weapons now??

The IRA could have been based anywhere in the island of Ireland, not just the republic. A lot of the free Irish would have nothing to do with the six counties: I know, because I was married to an Irish lady. But your point of the question was made for another reason, to complain about the Israelis. Gaza people don't deserve to live the way they do, but on the other hand, the Palestinian rebels are idiots. They know damn well what will happen if they attack Israel. The Israeli soldiers might as well be puppets on strings, operated by the Palestinian rebels. It is like kicking an angry dog - it will bite you. I am running out of analogies and getting fed up with the stupidity of the Palestinians. Don't they know that only bombarding them with words will have any effect? You can wear down your oppressor that way, not by taking them on at their own game of violence.

First off - it was individuals giving money to the IRA cause. Don't overlook the number of Irish Immigrants from the early 1900s here who have relayed stories of English atrocities to their children/grandchildren. Especially in the 80s it was a very popular thing for 1st and 2nd generation Americans to contribute to the IRA.

Secondly, when England was the unchecked Super Power they savaged the world - look at all the 'hot spots' in the world, most are the continued result of what England did 200+ years ago. The difference with America is that we try to solve a problem then get the hell out - unlike England who would occupy countries confiscating land and wealth from natives. (Scotland, Ireland, N., S. & Latin America, India, Africa, the South Pacific, Asia, etc.)

Where was the outrage from the oh so civilized English, when my grandmother's 12 year old brother was shot in the streets of Westport by English soldiers (in 1919)? Not that he was the only Irish child killed by soldiers that day, but the Irish in America were raised with family history like this - and when the time came that they could contribute to the IRA it felt like a righting of an old wrong. The English are still occupying Ireland afterall - who was the US actively bombing/targeting in 2001? NO ONE.

Islamic terrorists are not fighting for land - but for the belief that there is one religion and anyone who will not convert must perish. We're not the only ones in danger - just the biggest target.

Many Americans are descended from Irish immigrants who fled to America after the Irish potato famine in 1845 and again at the end of the 1800`s when the British P.M. Gladstone, introduced land rules Discord with various British governments right into the early 20th Century persuaded many Irish to leave for U.S.A..Out of misguided loyalty to their `homeland and revenge on the evil British people, they collected money and gave it to the I.R.A. ( freedom fighters they said) to buy guns to kill the soldiers and bomb English cities. Those of us who had relatives and friends murdered as a result of this, will never forgive the Americans for that. Now the boot is on the other foot; their soldiers and relatives are being murdered by another nations `freedom fighters`( now termed terrorists) I`m very glad for the U.S.A. that we are now on their side, because God help them if we were put in a position to revenge `the troubles`. Water runs swiftly under the bridges of shame.

Now, judging from your terrible spelling and grammar, as well as the fact that there's no such report that says that, I can see right away that this question is a load of BS.

A rumor goes in one ear and out a thousand mouths.

EDIT: Point to be made here, I'm part British, and I spent more of my time in Britain than in America, yet still I support America. Funny old world, innit?

Many of the citizens of the USA are fairly uneducated in worldly terms. They live on a continent not a country and their imaginations seem to run riot. Most of them don't realise that the UK in terms of size is equal to one third of Texas with the entire population of New York State, Illinois State, California State and another 2m people squashed into it! They are somewhat self-righteous so allowing fund raising in the USA to buy weapons of death for the IRA terrorist organisation was on par with funding the Israelis now. They are a mixed bag of nationalities all originating from other parts of the World - except for the indeginous peoples - the North American Indian Tribes - who were pretty much wiped off their land, rather like the poor Palistinians today.

What I think you are trying to say in your chavvy, undereducated way is:
Some Americans supported Terrorists (the IRA) with donations, and paid for semtex to blow up people in London Docklands, Omagh, etc.
But, after 9/11, they decided that terrorism was not a nice thing and declared 'war on terrorism'
You wish to point out that this is hypocritical of them.

Is this correct?

The IRA always were cowards at heart - notice they never had a suicide bomber? And after 9/11 they realised that governments all over the world would get serious about terrorists and they didn't want SAS men looking them and their kids up at 3 am.

The Americans never paid the IRA to bomb the British! They IRA collected funds from where ever they could to fund their campaign against British occupation in Ireland.

Where did you get such information. Total Crap!!!!!!!!!

Because they are hypocrites.

Before 9/11 i went to states and they were all on IRA side and couldnt grasp the terrorist notion. Even though 90 per cent didnt know where England and Ireland were in relation to each other.... and had even less knowledge of the politics. They were still happy to give their support and US dollars.

Oh, how things have changed.......... now we expected to jump at their every whim just because they finally suffered their first terrorist attack. Even though UK been suffering for decades.
