Yes, she can stop drinking. But, you have to come to terms with the fact that no matter how much you fuss at her, or beg, she will not be ready to actively help with her own battle until SHE is ready and until SHE admits that she has a drinking problem. Don't give up on her, be there, love her, but don't enable her. It is hard to reach a balance between enabling and feeling sorry for her, and tough love. This isn't your alcoholism, it is hers and when she admits that and turns to you or even a professional for help, then she will be equipped and ready to quit.

It clearly bothers you that she drinks. Have you told her that ? Have you any other family that can help ?
Did you talk to your family doctor ?
Sometimes you have to be brave for your parent, its a really hard thing to do, but you might end up saving them. Be brave and talk to her when she isn't drinking. Try and make her understand how it makes you feel. There may not be an immediate result, if it is alcoholism, she will need help, but in your heart, you'll know that you've tried.
I wish you all the best of luck.

You might want to talk to your mother, she may have a problem. If she is abusing alcohol, it could be serious, let your mother know that you are concern and just maybe she will realize that there is help out there and she doesn't have to got through what she is going through alone or with alcohol.

How is it you expect anyone to look into your future or your mother's future and predict such a thing? GROW UP! Yes when she dies she won't have another drink!

depends on whether or not she hits bottom. my mom was lucky, she had a very supportive sister and brother-in-law who set up an intervention. Call Al-Anon they can help you and your mom, but most importantly......you. Good Luck.

No, mine hasn't either and she's made every mistake in life possible. The older she gets the harder it will be to quit.

the question is have you try helping her? have you talk to her? sometimes we dont see our own mistakes,,, so I think that you should talk to her and tell her that you care that's why you are talking to her about this matter...
