have a thirteen foot banister with nineteen turned newels (approx every eight inches). Upper portion attached to a wall, terminates in a vertical piece on lower floor. Other than most all being rounded surfaces, not any difficult to coat features. Now has a pickled stain finished (my guess) with polyurethane. I want it white. My guess is that the job will require degalzing, primer coat, and finish coat. The market is a Southern state capital, middle class residence/neighborhood.

What's a reasonable price range for the labor for a quality job? Is there a formula?

Just guessing, I'd think it could be done in one day for $20 per hour; so approximately $160 labor, plus materials cost.

Of course, if you DIY, it'll just be the cost for materials and whatever costs are associated with cleaning up after an amateur painter.

Talk to the folks at Home Depot about estimating the cost, and maybe get a referral or two to someone who would be good.

The bid will depend on how long the job takes. All it needs is a light sanding & a couple of coats of paint. Since its detailed work I'ed figure at least 200 thuogh that's probbly a middle ground to concider.

Just get a crackhead name Ezel and it'll cost you maybe 2 bucks and if you really lucky he'll only charge you 52 cents. See cuz a crackhead would do anything for a rock. He'll grab some paint for you.

I'd do it for $100.

But I'm not a professional painter. I don't see why it would cost much, though. Don't let them play you for a yuppie.
