Whilst deleting some stuff from my machine, I managed to silence it. now it seems my sound card has vanished! In sound devices it says "no sound device". I know I used to have a "Soundmax digital audio....." and i know its still in there... Somewhere... but please! please if anyone can explain how and or where or if i can get the sound working again.

Click on Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools then click on System Restore and restore your machine back to a date BEFORE you deleted the files.

before you start this process, you should have a disk that came with your sound card. some cards require you to install the software first. see your device's documentation for clarity.

1. right click on the my computer icon. choose properties.
2. click on the hardware tab.
3. click on the device manager button.
4. do you have any devices in this list that have some kind of alert icon over them? right click on those and uninstall/remove them.
5. underneath the menu bar, there are some icons. click on the one that looks like a computer monitor with a magnifying glass over it (scan for hardware changes).
6. the 'found new hardware wizard' should pop up and it's going to ask for software drivers. follow the wizard on installing the drivers.

If you do not have the drivers... you may be able to get better assistance here:

good luck.

I'd download the software that you need from the vendor. There might even be an upgrade to the file extensions. The system restore might work. I say might because I deleted my profile for Fire Fox lately and system restore didn't un-erase the files

Good Luck!

Go to contol panel-Hardware-Add new Hardware.
Then write the name of your hardware.
The sound card will then be detected again.
