How long do department store keep survelliance tapes?

It will vary depending on store policy and technology used.

My experience is that a store will have a tape for each day of the week or two week period. Tuesday the 10th would get copied over on Tuesday the 17th or 24th. Many recordings are NOT in real time, but rather in time Lapse (one frame for a preset number of seconds).
