G. Adkins .329 ave, 29 HRS, 120 RBI. M. Holliday .326 ave, 34 HRs, 114 RBI, B. Hawpe .293 ave, 22 HRs, 84 RBI. A great vet in Helton. A nice young, talanted rookie in Tulowitzki (believe me, Ripkin clone. Watched him play in the College World Series). Three nice starters (if they got run support) in Jennings, Cooke, and Francis. And a dominating closer in Fuentes. No one is due for contract until next year so build on what we did this year, and I see a fight in the NL West next year. Remember I said core group. Analize what they have with that.

My concern regarding those RBI numbers is that they're hugely inflated because of Coors. Adkins had only 47 of his 120 on the road, and Holliday was even worse with 36 RBI on the road as compared to 78 at home. Holliday also batted only .280 on the road.

Looking past that, I'd still say it's nt a bad group. However, I think "young" might be pushing it given that Hawpe and Adkins are both 27. It's not like they're real young kids just coming into their own - they're already close to as good as they're going to get.

I think the pitchers offer more to get excited about. Francis has a chance to be very good, and his WHIP this season (1.29) is very impressive given that he pitches half his games at Coors. Jason Jennings has been underrated for years, and Cook is the type of groundball pitcher you need when you play at that altitude.

I'm not sure how well they'll do next year, but it's not like anyone will be running away with the NL West. For that reason, the Rockies might have a shot.

Coors isn't inflating RBIs and numbers as much this year. The Rockies have a legitimate group of young talented players. They just need to play together all season and stay consistent. Atkins is a stud, he needs to keep putting those numbers up. I think they need one stand out semi-veteran pitcher to help with the young blood. I'm sorry but Fuentes is not a top reliever. They need to spend a little money to supe up their bullpen. I love the Rockies, I live in Nebraska for goodness sake. I'm all for national league Midwest teams, except for the cubs.

What the Rockies need is a better manager, and middle relief.
