gatesfam@swbell.net, I don't appreciate the sarcasm mate. I am asking a serious question, but my text would not fit into the box. I would like to know who's land the people of Israel are taking and claiming as their own, or is this all just a common anti-american belief?

it is not about whos land is it or what not, because God is not a real state agent at the UN giving some nation a land and leaving some out.

I am not anit Semitic and believe that the Jewish people are entitled to a home. However, If one goes back to Exodus one will see clearly that the "promised land" was actually further south (as further south ones see ancient Hebrew names pre dating those after Exodus).

The Israelites approached the land of Caane from the east and attacked the land and captured it from the local peoples. This is the first time we hear of the Jews in what we know as Palestine. Ever since then there has been conflict between the Jews and the native Arab people who live there.

But the problem now is that the US arms and back the Israelis. It is because of this situation (being backed by the world super power) they do not see the need to come to any accommodation with the native people. Instead they have systematically displaced the Palestinian people. Taking their lands and giving it to their own people or building walls through Palestinian farms and homes.

Thus I would say that the problems began with the Jews invading Palestine. And it is they who seem to want total control in the region.

The history of that land is pretty much littered with different cultures. Recent history however (post WWII) is a bit clearer. After the war England was the primary force in re locating Jewish settlers into the region to found Israel. The Palestinians were forcefully removed from the cities and homes for this purpose.

The tragedy is that both sides have claims and both sides were in need of a homeland in which they could live with at least some semblance of security. The world didn't seem to care too much about the Palestinians though. It seems that letting them have a homeland is not too much to ask.

In 48-49 Briitish troops leave paestine and the state of Israel is declared. During the war of Independence palestinians fleed surrounding cities and settled in the Gaza Strip, this caused the population there to triple.
After this the Strip became under Egyptian rule, but Egypt did not grant citizenship to the palenstinians of the Strip.

1967
Israel captures the Strip during the Six Day War and then the UN calls for Israel to withdraw in exchange for an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

1970-72
A Jewish community that was evacuated in 48 rebuilds.

1978
Israel and Egypt sign the Camp David Accords- this ensures that they will try to reach an agreement on the palestinian autonomy in the Strip adn West Bank. In response Jewish settlements start to establish for settlements in the Strip to ensure a Jewish presence.

1994 Gaza-Jericho Agreement is signed, IDF forces leave most the Strip's Palestinian inhabited areas, but maintain control of the Jewish settlements, borders and strategic points.

1995
Hamas and Islamic Jihad carry out suicide bombings against Israelis.
Israel surrounds the Strip with a security fence.

2000-01
The Camp David Summit fails. The Second Intifada begins.
Jewish settlements in Gaza are constantly under attack.

2003-2004
In response to all of the Palestinian attacks the IDF recaputres part of the Strip.

2005
Knesset ratifies Sharon's Disengagement Plan. This plan was put in place to pay for the move of Jewish settlements out of the Strip.

The fight is mostly due to religion.. It really isnt about the land at all. Some would like to believe that it is.. it isnt that Israel is greedy in my opinion.

Israel has been unstable since the beginning of recorded history. It has been controlled by the Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Jews and I am sure that is not a complete list. It is also the center for at least three of the World’s major religions—Judaism, Islam and Christianity. It is where both Jesus and Muhammad are reported to have ascended to heaven. It has been a boiling pot since the beginning of time. In fact the Bible says that Jesus will return to the Mount of Olives, which is located in Jerusalem. It is easy to see why it may not find peace anytime soon.

At this time the people most affected by the illegal Israeli occupation are Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and the Syrians in the Golan Heights (several UN resolutions telling Israel to get out).
It is on record since the mid 1990's and as recent as this week, the Syrians have offered and will sign a peace treaty and recognise Israel on condition they return the Golan. The Israelis wont budge.
Unfortunately the US supports Israel blindly - why?
Clinton tried and failed with Ehud Burak they just couldn't solve it with the Knesset, and it finished Burak.

The Palestinians (formerly Jordanians when Jordan had the land) claim that this is their property. The Jews say, "no way, it's ours and we're tough enough to keep it." The Arab nations refuse to give homes to their brother Palestinians and instead shove them in refugee camps. (Keep in mind these are oil rich nations).

You'll hear people say it's Israel's fault because they took more land then they were given. They did do this AFTER the surrounding Arab nations declared War on them. Then to make peace with the world they pulled out of one of these areas and Lebanon, just to be attacked again. It'll never end.

the brits and the us partitioned part of the palestinian lands in the 40 or 50s to give it to the israelis as they had no home. the problems was the palestinians didnt or couldnt agree at the time whether to do it, so it was taken, and now they want it back, problem is israel are greedy and want more than they are due.

There are a million "claimed" reasons behind the wars and hostilities on all sides.

The real root reason, is that all these people have such crappy lives that they are willing to throw them away for mere idealogy.
