Germany, Netherlands and France all have 'christmas markets'
who's been to one? which would you recommend personally.

I worked in Dusseldorf for three years and the Christmas market in Cologne was probably the best in that region, with Dusseldorf's and Aachen's nearly as good, though Ddf's is rather too spread out to feel like a cohesive whole.
They're wonderful for things like tree decorations (beautiful blown glass), wooden toys, and sweets. But the best thing about them is just the atmosphere - drink Gluhwein, listen to the tacky-but-strangely-charming music, and if you're lucky (as I was the year my Mum visited) everything may even get covered in a light dusting of snow to make it just perfect!

I've been to quite a few German and Austrian ones (well, I did live there). I'd say Salzberg and Munich are the best, really, really traditional. Food-wise try the Gluehwein (mulled wine) and Lebkuchen (gingerbread type biscuits). There are also lots of traditional handmade toys (carved wooden trains and so on) / gift ideas. Yay! Go Germany!

They are not my thing really but The Lincoln Christmas market draws people from all over the world but I don't know why and it has become so busy they have had to make it one way round it for pedestrians.

My call may be Lazy and that i may be to blame for sitting around in the shop eating eggnog spiked with rum and eating some Christmas cookies and speaking on the telephone to my pals and infrequently choosing up someones device in the event that they dropped it on the floor yet this is barely using fact I only passed off to be status there on the 2d.

without any hesitation i love going to Cologne (Koln) in German,
it's got about 7 markets,outside ice rink, the shops, the Rhine, and the Dom (it's there Cathedral) you can if you are energetic go to the top, the views are well worth the climb, if your driving then it will take about 4.5 from Calais, mind you that's in my Coach, there is a hotel just on the left with the Rhine to your right, it's the Novotel Koln city, perfect location, if you type Koln in a search engine, you will find they have a good selection of sites with use full information. enjoy .

I've been to ones in Vienna. They have great food, local specialities and tonnes of decorations. They also have a brilliant atmosphere and the locals are extremely friendly.

I thought Germany was supposed to be the orignal and the best, not been though I'm afriad, although if you're anywhere near Bath that's def the best one I've been to in England

Well I live in Frankfurt and the markets aint bad....try Feuerzangenbowle tho....sehr lecker!
