I have seen several posts and self descriptions in Yahoo 360's (and throughout my life in general) that people with high IQ's like to tell people about it. For some reason I find it a bit tacky.

It's low self-esteem in action.
The truly smart do not need to announce it. Everyone else already noticed.

Not ALL people with high IQ's are bothered enough to state them publicly. Mensa is aimed at the top 6 million Americans based on IQ. That is a helluvalot of people.
As you are upset by it, I won't tell you my IQ. But are you just as threatened by people who can bench-press 400 pounds, or run the 100m in around 10 seconds, or who play in an internationally-renowned orchestra ?

I like to state my iq and it's not even on the high end. It's actually in the 'normal' range. Mines 99 one point under normal. I think high iq ppl like to feel they are better then others and use that as a way of showing it...

You are making a false assumption. Everyone with a high IQ and the need to tell everyone about it posts it. Others may have a high IQ and not post it so you don't know about it.

Intellegent people do not need to state their IQ, it should show through who they are. If someone feels the need to state their IQ, unless asked, then they have low self-esteem or think very highly of themselves. Most of those people probibly have results from the tickle.com test which is an inaccurate form of IQ testing.

Getting to "know" someone through the Internet is a bit tacky. I suppose that information is as relevant as any other bragging.
Do you say I have beautiful_______, or I'm good at__________, or I have big_________? Maybe they are shy insecure people, but this is something they have to share. If you don't like smart folk, the others are sure there, too.

its self pride. what is the point in accomplishing something if you dont share it with others? Its like the person who buys a brand new fancy car, do you actually expect them to keep it in the garage all the time... of course not, they will drive it around EVERYWHERE showing it off. yes sometimes people can be a little excessive, and turn into braggers/show-offs stuff like that, but you honestly cant expect people not to brag and strut their stuff ever.
