Also I am also wondering if japan is mad about the U.S dropping the atomic bomb on them, I don't know if it's a alliance that could break at any minute.

It still hurts when I think of nuke bombs that have destroyed our lives. But since we were very young, we've been taught that America is a good country. So I still believe American people are decent.
After I grew up, I became to see people not by where they are from but more individually.
I think many Japanese are the same way.
Japanese people sometimes tend to be extra nice for complete strangers. And when they started to recognize you as a part of them, it will be bashing. It will be not because you are from the USA.
But I recommend you to visit Atomic bomb museum in Hiroshima or Nagasaki to see what we have been taught about the incident.

The Japanese people are a beautiful, gracious people who may have certain problems with America and Americanism, but would not hold you personally responsible for Hiroshima/Nagasaki. They would judge you on yourself, though you should bear in mind that many people of the world believe the average Anerican to be 'loud-mouth, ignorant, hypocrits', and that the Japanese people still have a very formal manner, which you may find strange. If you behave with restraint when in public then you will have no problems in Japan, if however you behave like a 'Jock', you will find life very hard.
Public kissing, shouting, and lewd behaviour (mooning, drunkenness, aggression) are no-nos.
Don't misunderstand me though, the Japanese certainly know how to have a good time, and to enjoy things fully. It is a wonderful country to live in.
Arigato.

Japan is one of our closest allies, and if you had ever been to their country you will find that they like Americans very much. The living scale is very similar to that of the US, and nicer in many ways in some parts of the country. Japan is the 2nd largest economy in the world and their incomes are higher than here in the US on a per capita basis. I've been to Japan 6 times and wouldn't think twice about moving there as the quality of life is quite nice and comfortable.

Despite a checkered past relationship, both countries have put past differences aside to maintain a progressive and mutually beneficial relationship. It is the perfect example how diplomacy can work.
