There's nothing long-term that can be put on the grass. Some sprays appear on the market every few years, but none of them have ever proven very reliable.
If you have the means, a perimeter shrub along the outside edge provides a physical barrier. Some colonial homes have the traditional white picket fence.
My HOA prohibited both, so we added some flower beds periodically which discouraged people from walking their dogs in the main yard, and they tended to switch their dog to the side of the island of grass next to the street, which at least kept the dog off the main yard.
A somewhat devious trick? Motion sensor sprinklers. I've seen them in catalogues. Someone approaches the yard, and the sprinkler comes on for 5 minutes.
