Self-doubt - lack of confidence in the reliability of one's own motives, personality, thought, etc. : dictionary.com

I think doubting our self keeps us sharp, keeps us grounded and give us a reason to keep trying harder.

Example - I'm an assistant instructor in Martial Arts. I thought my form (a series of kicks, punches and blocks) was pretty good, but I did not think it looked like the others. My instructor said to me one day,

"I think you can take first place in your class, I would like you to compete".

I was shocked. I never though it was that good, (self-doubt), good enough to compete. Although it was nice to hear, especially from a Master that knows his stuff, but it still was not apart of my reality. So I signed up, and trained for the next month.

If I did not doubt myself, I would not have trained harder to insure I would take first.

I did take first, out of 7 other men that have been competing for over a year. Now, it is part of my reality. Now I teach with confidents that I believe was need to be a good instructor.

So figure out what it is going to take to make it apart of your reality. Now in every day life, you don't have a competition to go to. You must ask a qualified source for constructive criticism.

"How am I doing?"

This will help you gain the confidence and help you see what you need to work on. Also you will need to make it apart of your reality by remembering when you got the outcome you needed. Make a list.

Remembering the good stuff in the past, makes you happy now, like an old joke you can recall makes you laugh again. Just remember it starts with a question,

"Can you remember a time you laughed so hard you almost wet yourself?"

Thanks for listening, hope this helps.

Everyone have doubts once in a while in their life. even big shot movie stars have those days when they wonder if they could actually made it in the industry. or if they would be able to keep thier status as the biggest movie star. The thing is one has to realize that doubts are there for a reason. Don't take those doubts negatively......turn them into positive energy. but how? you ask.....well....for example if you are having doubts about your ability to make it in your job....then realize (writing them down on a piece of paper might help) them what they are....for ex. would I be able to do the first task handed to me....will i make a good impression on my collegues or boss and etc....and then out line some steps you can take to make SURE that you don't fail into those tasks....make sure you make a good impression on your collegues by being friendly to them...and by helping them out. don't over do it thought. striking up a conversation abt basketball might be good. or something like that.....so you see? self doubts don't have to be negative. they are there to keep you in check and to help you.

I used to have really low self esteem, and a friend of mine suggested that I should force myself to walk with confidence. I did, and pretty soon the confidence was actually there. Now I'm a very narcissistic person, but at least I like myself!

You aren't very specific in your question so I cant really give you a concrete answer. But in all things have faith in yourself and eventually your hard work will pay off. Its all mind over matter!

Pay attention to what you're thinking about and learn to focus your mind.
If you always ask yourself questions like "Why can't I do this", "Why do I always fail?" etc all you're doing is setting yourself up to feel bad. Sometimes you may not even be aware of what you're "self-talk" is. Pay attention as much as you can to your self chatter and when you catch yourself asking bad questions instead ask yourself more helpful questions like "How can I get this to work?", "How can I get even better at this?" How many other questions can you use to empower you?
