Sounds like a speech by Bush or Rumsfeld!

The stanza describes someone's manner of speaking, and the effect he/she has on their audience. You have probably experienced someone who has nothing nice to say at all.. and they know how to push your buttons and get you doubting yourself, feeling icky or guilty or afraid or angry. Speech that sucks the life out of you and destroys your peace of mind like a leech sucks your blood.

First of you should know that leeches were once used for there purported medicinal purposes. They were placed on the body and used to suck "bad blood" ......

So the stanza is about cleansing and healing; e.g. maybe the removal of the original sin that we are borne with,
