to change your body's surface area, make your skin wrinkly and have extended appendages like the villus ( A fine, hairlike epidermal outgrowth) in your intestines that makes the surface area bigger to make absorption of nutrients more efficient

To change the surface area of a single-celled organism, change the shape of it.. instead of a flat surface, add ciliums
(microscopic hairlike organels extending from the surface of a cell or unicellular organism) to the cell.. even if u decrease it's volume, the cell can still possibilly have more surface area with ciliums.. an example of a single celled organism with cilium is paramecium sp.

The brain gives us a wonderful example of a way that changes in surface area do not have to alter total volume. Notice the gyri and fissures over the surface of the cortex. These "wrinkles" significantly increase the surface area of the brain. Our brains are 3 times larger than our evoloutionary ancestor Australopithicus and 33% larger than Homo Erectus, even though we are only about 20% larger than the former and the roughly the same size as the latter.
With this in mind, now we can see how both fissures and other (cillia) alterations that increase the surface area of a single celled organism are not only possible, but necessary in a fitness sense.

think of a cube of part L long if it grows so L = 2L then the portion of the two part is 4 L^2 and the quantity is L^3 to (2L)^3 = 8l^3 referred to as the sq. cube regulation. it truly is the reason a mouse can leap extra suitable than an elephant

you could make your skin really wrinkly, that would change your surface area but not your volume
