Looking to buy a few movies similar to the Big Chill. The type with theme where friends / family gather for a weekend etc.

the medium sized chill was not quite as Good
they also made a tv mini series called chilli bits
but there newest one "Getting warmer" was quite a sucess in albania

"Peter's Friends" was a fourth rate, worthless ripoff of The Big Chill, so that might count as 'similar'. Don't buy it though, because it's absolute S H I T. It's a glutinous bore-fest made by and for the Notting Hill set, starring the usual f*ck*ng luvvies, and it is studiously plagiarised from the vastly superior "The Big Chill". Then again, there are few films that are not vastly superior to "Peters Friend's", so that's not saying much.
Similar themes : "Return of the Secaucus Seven", a wonderful, underated film by John Sayles, with an faultless ensemble cast. In fact "The Big Chill", for all it's brilliance, owes more than a little to "Return of the Seacaucus Seven". You might also try "Indian Summer" (starring Matt Craven, Diane Lane, Bill Paxton, Elizabeth Perkins, Kevin Pollack, Vincent Spano, Julie Warner, and Alan Arkin) and the Swiss film "Jonas On His Twenty-fifth Birthday", the BBC series "Our Friends In The North", the 1981 Arthur Penn film "Four Friends" ...
Should be enough to be going on with!

Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Saint Elmo's Fire. These are really GOOD eightites movies, and all involve the "Brat-Pack" who starred in the Breakfast Club. The Breakfast Club is pretty much my favourite movie, so I actually haven't found anything that adds up to it. But if you enjoyed the BC you should enjoy the movies I've listed. :]

"Return of the Secaucus 7," 1980 written and directed by John Sayles. The Big Chill was pretty much a remake of this one.
