Moral: I did read it. This is why I am alarmed.
We no longer have habeas corpus protection under the law. The Military Commissions Act is written too broadly. They could come after you next.

Sway, we have already had innocent people arrested, convicted and occaisionally executed.
D.As lie, witnesses lie, officers sometimes lie and juries don't conduct themselves propery at times.
At times the courts have practiced judicial murder.
At LEAST these suspects had access to the courts. In this case anyone secretly picked out, arrested and jailed has NO way to challenge their detention. Its just one jump away from " Night and Fog" . Can you honestly say NO innocent people are wrongly accused and jailed during this war on terra ?

misbach: I happen to KNOW Bush and DeLay are guilty. Hastert is toast and Rove will either be held accountable or he won't. But what does this have to do with the suspension of habeas corpus ?

that would apply if US Citizens were held under those conditions, but the Military Commissions Act is only used against non-US Citizens. Look into the facts before you begin to rant. Take your political diatribe someplace else

Happens to us all, if we were actually innocent until proven guilty, why would anyone ever be arrested? Isnt being arrested the police automatically assuming you are guilty?

Hey, I was actually agreeing with you. We are no longer innocent until proven gilty, but the other way around. I guess I should have worded my answer differently.

Bush and the Republicans are leading their minions goosestepping to a complete dictatorship. Forums like this will become useful for the Bushies to find "enemy combatants" to imprison indefinitely in Syria. They already have the power to do it and it's all been passed into law. Clarence and The Supremes are our last chance.

Democracy and freedom can slip away in a heart beat and the President can become a dictator over night. Fear is usually used to achieve this thru mind control. Stay engaged in politics to see that there are no more examples of this.

If you read the entire document then you would know that non-citizens who are enemy combatants do not have the right of habeas corpus....nor should you. The rights of American citizens are in no way violated by the act.

Public opinion has always tried people as guilty and never proven innocent. The law is just reflecting the nature of your society. People always make judgement before they get all the facts and it flavours their future assesments.

well lets see you think hastart is guilty, you think delay is guilty, you think rove is guilty, you think bush is guilty, according to the left and the media there is no need for trials anymore. As for what you are talking about read it and you will find you have nothing to worry about unless your going to blow yourself up in an act of terror. if you are i would make sure your good at it and try it in your basement first to make sure you will actually blow up.
