I think this all depends on the circumstances. I personally hate stereotypes. If the mother has the better paying job and dad is willing and able to do it then by all means why the heck can it not be dad. I have meet some awesome stay at home dad's in my day(and a few dad that had been given full custody of their kids too). If on the other hand dad has the better paying job and mom is willing to stay home then it should be mom. In our case it is me.
I say way to go for your husband it is awesome that he is so involved with your kids.

Actually my husband stayed home for several years with the kids. I had better health insurance through my work, and we could live on just my income.
Though I actually had the organizational skills and if we would have been younger I think that I would have stayed home but economically it worked out for us.
To me you have to take into account many things:finances, patience level, because truly staying at home is not just being with the kids you end up taking the bulk of the other household responsibilities.
But in answer to your question directly, the person that should stay at home is the person you two decide

I stay home because he makes lots more money than i could. But, if we were rich I would get a job and let him stay home. I'm not the best stay -at -home mom.....I get so bored then angry cause I have nothing to do. He would love staying at home( about 2 years ago he stayed home and I worked for about 6 months.....he loved it and so did I)

I'd say you'd have to work it out between you. Lots of factors. Whose job is better AND more stable. Who really LIKES to be at home and likes to go to work. If the man wants to stay home and the woman wants to work there is nothing wrong with that. I would hope that the man, if he stayed home, also had the responsibilities of the house and didn't leave all that to the woman when she got home from work, though!

I think the woman...I would love to be a stay at home mom. But really it depends obviously on who's making the money that makes it possible for one to stay home and on who is productive if they stay home. I don't think the person should sit around in watch talk shows and soaps all day. Cook, clean..........

I think whoever is more adept at raising the child or children. Some fathers have a very good rapport with the kids and enjoy being "the parent", while some mothers would just prefer to be out working. It can also work the other way. So whatever works for you is your best bet.

You must have one good man , most of the friends that I have I would not let stay at home to take care of a goldfish . The woman is the only one who knows how to take care of the children properly .

I don't think it matters who stays home. I say whoever wants to do it, should do it. I would love to be able to stay home one day. I don't have any kids yet, but when I do, I know it will be hard dropping them off at daycare. Of course, once they're around 2, my hubby would love to stay home and take the kid fishing every day....lol.

My husband stayed at home with our youngest because of my income, but I would come home and clean. Now I am a stay at home mom (but I am ready to go back to work.)

I think the woman should stay home. Men will have the kids watching tv and doing anything they want all day. They are big softies and can't say no to their kids.
