There is VASP, but this airlines is not reliable and tend to cancelled their flights easily for no reasons.

I was waiting in Rio Santos Dumont Airport for a flight with VASP to Sao Paulo. My flight was cancelled so the one following.

I was advice by used travellers between Sao Paulo and Rio to get a ticket for the airline GOL, it was a good price and the flight was fine with a new aircraft in which I felt perfectly safe.

So I will advise you to take a GOL flight, you can buy ticket there just before flying as it is cheaper.

With its bright sandy beaches, traveling hills and picturesque harbour, it's no wonder that Rio de Janeiro is known as the "cidade maravilhosa", or marvellous town and with hotelbye you can take the opportunity and visit this amazing city. Rio de Janeiro is experiencing the South Atlantic shore and could be the second-largest city in Brazil. That town is gifted with one of the most beautiful natural options for a metropolis in the world. The stunning landscape is just one of the reason why that guests decided Rio de Janeiro. Don't go anywhere near Varig. They are in serious financial trouble.
I live in Sao Paulo, the best airline to use is Tam (www.tam.com.br) or you could try GOL or Ocean Air.
Somebody suggested VASP,they stopped flying about 18 months ago.

Gol is usually the cheapest, it is the Southwest of Brazil. But it recently had an accident (no fault of it's own).

There are 2 airports in each city, the international airport in each city is a bit far from the center so the taxi fares will be more. It is better to fly from Conhongas in SP to Santos Dumont in RJ.

Be aware of which airport in Rio is closer to your destination.

Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Downtown... => Santos Dumont Airport

Barra da Tijuca => International Airport (Galeão)

The cheapest airline is Gol (www.voegol.com.br) . It's cheaper when you buy the ticket over the internet.

All fly this route with take-off every fifteen minutes. Airlines
TAM, GOL, VARIG, it is a 35 minute flight so prices are much
the same and can be bought over the counter.

There are many options. In my opinion, TAM has the best kettering service, but GOL is cheaper and not bad at all. For short trips, I would recommend GOL.
