Vinegar and Baking soade obsorb odors. Candles mostly just mask any smells. Also, warming up fabric softner on the stove works well. Also, open the windows while you're cleaning.

All of the above answers work great; vinegar in bowls, baking soda sprinkled on the carpet, and boiling cinnamon all will help. Fabreeze sprayed on the furniture will do wonders too!
So much depends on WHAT is causing the smells, the best way to find out is to start at the bottom of the room and work your way up. Normally, you will find that smells collect in the carpeting and the furniture and are very strong when there is any amount of humidity. So, clean the carpeting, furniture, vacuum the carpeting using baking soda for freshner, spray fabreeze on everything and put a little cinnamon on the stove or bake some bread. Good Luck and Happy Cleaning!!

Plastic mesh vegetable bags full or absorbant clay and clean sat litter. If there is a moisture problem adding to the odor the cat littler works best, If you can spread it all around the area that is best..and maybe leave the area for a day or two then vacumn the cat litter back up with a shop vac. Some Linen and things, or bd bath and beyond ( each have a website) carry the clay already packaged ....they are called something like odor -sorb(??) they work well. It's important to identify the cause and remove it if you can of course.

It all depends on what is causing the odor? Bacteria, mold, animals (urine, etc.), smoking, etc?
For general freshness (and it works for me) is Fabreeze, or just white vinegar in small bowls set around the house. Also, baking soda absorbs odors (I use it in the refrigerator as it absorbs the smells), use it the same way you use the white vinegar.
Of course a thorough cleaning of the house would be recommended prior to using the above to be sure you have basically cleaned where the odor(s) might be coming from.

depending on what the smell is. If its a moldy mildew smell you could have a water leak some where that needs your attention right away so you and your family dont get sick. If tis just a regular smells then try buring some of the oil potporie (spelling sorry). or you may want to open you windows and let some fresh air in.

You could put vinegar in a small bowl and leave it in an inconspicuous part of your home-just be careful not to let little children or animals near it. The vinegar should absorb smells.
Febreze spray is also nice; the vinegar is just readily available in your home no doubt.

Cleaning always helps. But try simmering cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves for several hours and repeat a second day if necessary(probably not). Works fantastic!!!!

I often used pandan leaves for my store room. Of course ventilation is also important.
