Check the light on the monitor.
If it is amber that means it is not receiving a signal from the computer. This is caused by either a loose signal cable between computer and monitor or the computer is not powered up.
If the light is green then the monitor is receiving a signal from the computer and the screen should display as usual.
You can also check to see if your brightness and contrast are set too low.
If the brightness/contrast are set high, monitor power light is green, then it is time for a new monitor. Don't bother taking it to a shop because the CRT tube is burnt out and is very expensive to replace. It would be cheaper to buy a monitor from a discount place. There are specialty shops that sell used monitors on the cheap. These monitors usually are checked out by the shop to make sure they still work properly. You might be able to get one of these for $40 - $50.

Sounds like a hardware problem with the monitor. You can have a pro look at it, but generally the labor and parts will run you are much as a replacement monitor. Start saving your pennies to buy a new one...

If your monitor is working properly check to see if it has an upgraded video card as the computer will automatically default to that one. Most systems now have built in video cards on the motherboard, however if there is a video card you might be on the wrong plug.If there is change it and it will work. Hope this helps you....Steve

@Saurab it would in no way be the hard disk drive the computing device is failing to placed up (potential on self try) which skill a often happening hardware fault or the bios chip it selfis undesirable. so it must be your cpu ram motherboard or bios chip. the computing device might boot up only large with no hard disk drive it only does not load an OS however the show might nevertheless come on.

Make sure all cables are firmly in place. Can I assume you have tried turning the contrast and brightness knobs, just in case one of them has been turned down too much? It has been known to happen!
