I am not looking for the latest style - just trainers that will keep my feet in good nick while I pound the pavement (well - actually it is nearly winter - the treadmill is more likely now...)

I look for sales at Big 5 Sporting Goods, where I got a fabulous pair of Reebox runnings shoes for about $25 (regularly $100)

Depends wat you want them for and so on,if its only for a casual run or jogging then you should get a pair that are comfortable and have plenty of support and cushining,if they are for the road ul neeed cushioning,if its for grass or trails then bigger threads on the soul would be better,if u want them for speed sessions then get a light pair that wont sap the energy out of your legs,i used to wear asics all the time but the reebok premier road are a nice runner that can be worn for any type of training, enough cushioning to run on the road and the grip is good and they dont seem dat heavy

many decent sports shops now have a facility where you can jog on a treadmill and the way your feet land is recorded and they can then suggest the best shoes for your feet , my brother in law had this done while training for the london marathon and as far as i am aware the shoes recomended to him were reasonably priced

Tons of sales at this time of year...just picked up a nice pair of Fila's for under $30..go to the sports stores and check out there sales. Avia's usually sell at Costco for $25....they are a nice solid running shoe...nice support. I say hit the sales...lots of variety.

any that are comfortable on you. i would recommended reeboks (as i have those) but brand does not really mean that much as they are all produced in similar ways - just marketed differently.

btw did you know olympic athlete zola budd sucessfully competed in the olympics barefoot? that puts the need for trainers in a whole new light doesnt it?
