If you take a prenancy test and it is positive you need to contact the doctor then for an appointment to be scheduled.
If you think you are pregnant it would be best to try a hpt test first. (They usually ask if you did). If it comes out negative tell the nurse that it was negative but you still feel you are pregnant and they will schedule an appointment to take your blood.

I would say call your doctor as soon as you know you're pregnant. They'll want to get you started on vitamins (if you're not already, which would be better), check your blood pressure, and make sure everything else is working properly - a health problem in the mom (even a tiny one that we'd normally brush off) courld be extremely dangerous for the baby!!
Also, you want to have your dates confirmed as early as you can, because there are some tests and such that must be done during specific weeks as you go along.
Also, it's ood for you psychologically, to see your doctor and be reassured that everything's okay. (you need a lot of that type of reassurance when you're pregnant, especially the first time!)
So good luck!
PS: If you call your doctor's office, and they thinkits too early for you to come in, they'll say so, and schedule your appointment for the right time. No harm done, so just CALL!

There is no rule. If this is your first pregnancy, you need a full exam to determine your utero health. You may need genetic tests depending on your age. You may have multiple births involved. Early detection of problems is vital. You could also have a tubal pregnancy. An exam will rule all these problems out, and help you in delivering a healthy newborn. Make an appt as soon as you suspect pregnancy. Visit the board of health if funds are low. Benefits available can be explained to you.

Thanks you ask this question for me too. I would like to know it too....*Honestly I would like to make appointment to see my doctor before I pregnant, I mean we should see the doctor before we trying to conceive....but I didn't which it's shame really....*I am glad I have appointment to see him next week and I then will be 2 months pregnant, I hope it's still OK...my first pregnant I see the doctor when I was only 2 weeks pregnant...*I think we should see the doctor as soon as we know that we are pregnant because *each days are so important for the baby development*.......*I was embarrassed to see my GP because the guy who make me pregnant denied me and the baby..but now I am doing my best for my baby....and I also very exciting to know if I have twin baby or not.....I am sure my GP will help me get through this painful situation....today I cry and hug the wall, next week my GP will give me a hug, he is the best man I have ever known....*don't laugh at me about my answer.....I am in a very painful moment....but still can say 'congratulation to you' :-)....we are lucky that we can have a baby....
*Your question and all the answers are very usefull for me, I did read all of the answers...I live in UK, and I don't think I can get back to my country before my baby born...so my baby need UK care anyway....thanks a lot :-)

Funnily enough you seem to find an urge to go see a doctor in no time after you find out or think you are pregnant!!! But seriously - if you make it before 13/16/18 weeks you will be able to go ahead with your first ultrasound - which is pretty amazing!!!! I dont think there is any urgent rush in the beginning, but at about 13 weeks onwards - after surviving the first trimester - you will probably be wanting a bit of reassurance of what is going on down there.... Plus - a trip to the doctor makes it all seem more "real" if you know what I mean!!! Good luck....

As soon as you are sure you may be pregnant after you have missed period by three weeks. Make an appointment at the doctors no rush and once he/she sees you he will them refer you to your local hospital and you will have to wait for the appointment to come through.
Good luck if you are pregnant nappy days and all that.

As soon as possible as being pregnant sometimes are way complicating than we think it was...with the help of our doctor we can able to find out and determine some signs and unusual body changes in our body,at least sooner you are ready to face all of it as your doctor will explain to you everything, you will be aware of anything and will know what will going to do next...you have to take care of your body now that you're carrying your first child.... as soon as you visit your doctor he/she will give you an iron tablets and other vitamins for yourself and for your baby too... drink more milk if you can as it will help the developments of your baby bones and good for you too....So go ahead visit your doctor as soon as possible...GOOD LUCK!
