I am given a second hand laptop by my bf. Is there a way for me to change his name to mine in the laptop?Right now, i see links such as C:\Documents and Settings\AAA\My Documents\, AAA being his name. Also, i understand that word is being installed under his name..any way to change this as well?

You can create a new account for yourself. Go to Control Panel and double click on Users and Passwords. Create a new account there.

Log off and log in as new User
