The bill was originally introduced in the House of Representatives by Representative Goodlatte and was attached to "must pass" legislation in the Senate by Senator Frist. It was a total sham that gambling on-line was made illegal by attaching it to a piece of must-pass legislation at the last minute.
When did the "conservative" position mean that you prohibit adults from doing what they would like with their own money? Personal responsibility is the entire basis for a conservative philosophy and this legislation flies completely in the face of it. When did the Republican Party become the nanny for the nation?!
I strongly believe that the government should not attempt to prohibit online gambling by adults. Millions are in of favor legalization, regulation and taxation of online gambling by the government of the United States but to prohibit it is not exactly letting us be the Land of the Free is it?
Those in congress who let this pass by should be ashamed of themselves!

The vote did not break down neatly along party lines, as 165 Republicans and 79 Democrats voted for the bill, and 44 Republicans and 114 Democrats voted against it. One independent voted for and one against the measure.
