Lost in woods with nothing...
1. Shelter, you are most likely to die of hypothermia this time of year, therefore, find an area where you can build a lean to, you need as much insulation under you as over, forget trees, you will fall out and it is much too cold
2. Water, you will need fresh running water, if you are lucky you can build your shelter close by (but not too close as that's where the animals will go)
3. Food, it is a good time of year, lots of apples, berries etc, unless you are an experience woodsman etc good bloody luck at hunting unless you know how to find a rabbit run and set up a snare, fishing is much easier and higher chance of catching something, but you can survive for a week without food if you stay warm and have water.
4. Fire, nice but not necessary this time of year, be patient, lots of dry tinder and remember little fire is better than big fire, it will keep you warm, cook your food, not burn you to a crisp (including the forest) and you will not be trudging around all night looking for fuel, and if you know how to bank it correctly it will last till morning.
also most important STAY DRY it could keep you alive

Normally when I am in the woods I have my hunting bag. It contains a knife, compass, lighter and matches, flashlight, etc. First of all, find a suitable camping spot. Gather firewood, build a shelter. Find water. You can survive without eating, but its a must to stay hydrated. As a last resort, call 911.

If you're ever lost in the outdoors use the S.T.O.P. acronym (sit, think, observe, plan) to control panic. You'll know what I mean about panic if you've ever been in that situation. And, if you haven't been turned around and you spend any significant amount of time in the outdoors, then it's only a matter of time before you do know what I mean. Psychologists have studied this mental state and found that without a known reference point the mind will begin to race in order to find one and if not found quickly then panic sets in.

If I were lost in the catskills, I would hunt squirrels to eat, sleep under thick bushes to rest, and trap animals for clothing. For entertainment, however, I might take up tree climbing, not bear wrestling.

first figure out how to make fire, then make sure i am in a relatively safe place away from bears... etc, catch/gather some kind of food (know which plants and animals is ok to eat), have a weapon/tool to defend yourself and something to keep you warm in case it gets cold and know where the nearest body of water is...
