I have severe arthritis to the point I have been taking prescription pain meds. They seem to make me sick, and so moody Is there any alternatives out there besides surgery?

Joints

Water lubricates our joints. The cartilage tissues found at the ends of long bones & between the vertebrae of the spine hold a lot of water, which serves as a lubricant during the movement of the joint. When the cartilage is will hydrated, the two opposing surfaces glide freely, & friction damage is minimal. If the cartilage is dehydrated, the rate of "abrasive" damage is increased, resulting in joint deterioration & increased pain.

The actively growing blood cells in the bone marrow take priority over the cartilage for the available water that goes through the bone structure.

Rheumatoid joint pain frequently decreases with increased water intake & flexing exercises to bring more circulation to the joints.

Many of the common complaints which plague most people's lives, such as tiredness, headaches, dry skin, low immunity, cellulite, indigestion and weight gain, are caused by day-to-day dehydration.

Water helps to: Relieve/Prevent: lower back pain, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, headaches, migraines, asthma, allergies, colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, depression, hypertension, cholesterol, hangovers, neck pain, muscle pain, joint pain, bloating, constipation, ulcers, low energy levels, stomach pain, confusion and disorientation.

Maintain: muscle tone, weight loss, clear and healthy skin.

Regulate: body temperature, remove toxins and wastes, cushion and lubricate joints, decrease risk of kidney stones, protect tissues, organs and the spinal cord from shock and damage.

Assist In: the digestion & absorption of food, and in transporting oxygen and nutrients to the cells.

Drink alkaline water everyday is the best cure for you.

WHAT IS ALKALINE WATER?

One of the longest-lived race of people in the world are called the Hunza. These people, located in the northern Pakistan, are found in several high-altitude mountain valleys. Many Hunza claim to be 150 years old; many others are documented centenarians (over age one hundred). For many years, scientists have pondered the mystery of what makes them so healthy, for they rarely suffer the diseases the rest of us know so well. Some researchers are beginning to believe that the Hunza miracle derives from the water that they drink. The mountain water that flows into the Hunza villages comes from the surrounding glaciers. Structured hexagonally, this water is filled with mineral solutes, and it tests out as highly alkaline

As we have said before, the body uses the blood stream system to dispose of wastes; these are removed in liquid form, and are often deposited in the lungs and kidneys. If there are too many wastes to handle, they are deposited in various organ systems, like the heart, or the pancreas, or the liver, or the colon, or in other locations. Sometimes theses wastes are left on the walls of arteries, and over the years can spread throughout the body.

The break-down of this disposal process, especially of acid wastes, is how we define the aging process. To slow down and reverse this direction, one must begin removing acid wastes from the body.

The best way we have found to do this is to drink alkaline water. This water, having a pH of between of 9 and 11, will first neutralize harmful stored acid wastes, and if you consume it every day, will gently remove them from your body. Yet, since the water is ionized, it will not leach out valuable alkaline minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, or sodium.

Japanese doctors have treated their patients for over four decades with alkaline water. They believe that the immune system looses its power to throw off disease when the body becomes too acidic. They advocate drinking alkaline water, eating alkaline foods.

Asian medicine assigns two categories to human diseases: communicable and adult. Contagious or communicable diseases are caused by viruses and bacteria. Influenza, the common cold, aids, plagues, all fall into this category, and medical doctors are quite proficient at treating them. Adult diseases include heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, gout, arthritis, kidney diseases, hemorrhoids, asthma, hay fever, allergies, obesity, tooth and gum disease, skin disorders, and many others.

They are caused by poor circulation, by deficient cellular activity, and by the accumulation of acid wastes in the body. Asian medicine says that many adult diseases can be treated by alkalizing the bloodstream.

Medicine of America does not attempt to remove acid wastes from the physiological system; so today's modern medicine is rather deficient in treating adult diseases. Even if the medicine cures the disease, if acids are not removed from the body, the treatment's effectiveness will at best only be temporary.

Uses of Alkaline Water:

*Raises drinking water's pH to approximately 7.5
*Binds heavy metals.
*Removes chlorine.
*Hinders growth of bacteria.
*Adds ionic coral calcium and essential minerals to water.

-Fact: If your body's pH is not balanced, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals and food supplements.

-Fact: There is more calcium in the body than any other mineral. 20% of an adults bone calcium is reabsorbed and replaced every year.

*Maintain optimum alkalinity for optimum health
*Provide you easily absorbed and usable calcium
*Cleanse the kidneys, intestines and liver
*Maintain stronger bones and healthier teeth
*Alleviate insomnia
*Keep your heart beating regularly
*Help metabolize your body's iron
*Aid your nervous system
*Breakdown heavy metals and drug residues in your body
*Neutralize harmful acids that lead to illness
*Achieve a healthy alkaline level, neutralizing acid
*Protect your body from free radical damage
*Control digestive problems
*Increase muscle and joint mobility
*Combat arthritic conditions and heart disease
*Regulate blood sugar levels and blood pressure

ALKALINE WATER EXPERIENCES

A woman in her forties under high stress was diagnosed with high blood pressure and was told she had abnormally high cholesterol levels. She began consuming one and a half quarts a day of alkaline water. After a few weeks, both her cholesterol and blood pressure were lowered; and as an added benefit, her stomach began to feel much better.

A teenager with a severe acne began drinking the water, and after three months, the condition was cleared up. He consumed two quarts a day of alkaline water.

A man worried about the effect of the prescription drugs that he was taking for overweight began consuming two quarts of the water per day. after six months, he had thrown away his drugs, and had lost over thirty pounds.

In California, a man had been suffering from hyper-acidity for many years, and after eating a meal would unpredictably vomit. He began consuming six glasses of the alkaline water per day. Within a week his acidity ended; he also lost fifteen pounds in three months, and discovered a dramatic rate of increase in his ability to heal small ailments, like cuts and bruises.

A woman had suffered constipation for thirty years, and began drinking water on a regular basis, and completely rid herself of this condition. She had also lacked an appetite for years, but has now developed a healthy one.

One man who likes to consume alcohol moderately, noticed when he began consuming the water on a regular basis, that he quit suffering hangovers, and that the drowsiness he regularly experienced had left him.

A female athlete in her twenties began consuming the alkaline water for a stomach condition; she felt an increase in her general energy level, and after a day of strenuous training, found that the alkaline water minimized the aches and pains she had always previously experienced.

For years, a woman had suffered ulcers, and was feeling nauseous from her medication; a regular consumption of the water allowed her to cease her medication and the ulcer began to go away.

One could go on and on with these stories, and there are many more, but what we suggest you do is simply try the water yourself.

I have the same problem myself and can sympathize with you. My major problem area is my knees and I find Durolane shots very good. This is a gel that is injected right into the joint and acts in the same way as synovial fluid is supposed to. These are supposed to work for between 6 and 18 months and give considerable relief for those people they do work for. Mine have given me just over 4 months of 80% improvement and I'm on a list to get repeat treatment. Cortisone injections are available for other joints, but are not as effective or long lasting.

Ask your GP to refer you to a Pain Clinic. You'll probably find that there is a huge list before you even get on the official waiting list (I am still waiting after 5 months), but assuming you eventually manage to see someone they should be able to explore more effective ways of managing your pain.

It is important to do some exercise on a regular basis. Physiotherapy might help, but consult someone qualified before starting an exercise program. Some sufferers find acupuncture useful; it didn't work for me but if it's available for free in your area through the NHS then go for it, it might help you.

I'm on a combination of tramadol and diclofenac from my GP with cocodamol or paracetamol to top it up when the pain is bad. I take Devil's Claw as an alternative anti-inflamatory to diclofenac when I can afford it and use Glucosamine Sulphate to minimise further cartiledge loss. As a painkiller I find good skunk to be preferable to tramadol when circumstances permit.

Good luck.

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for our pets is to let them go, but with all the questions you have you may well want to talk to another vet. With such a serious illness you need a vet who will take the time to explain to you fully the chances for a good outcome for your dog with surgery and meds. A good vet knows that doing "everything" possible is not always the right thing for the dog or it's owners. If yours is not helping you enough or communicating well with you, I would find another vet. It can be very hard for an owner to judge quality of life for a sick pet on their own, and you need someone who is good council in this obviously upsetting time. A second opinion may just tell you the same thing again, but you need to feel like you made a educated choice for your pet. If your vet isn't helping you with that go elsewhere. I am so sorry for you and your dog, I wish the best for both of you.

Gentle exercise, physiotherapy with a registered practitioner. Glucosamine suppliments, fish oil suppliments.

Some people advocate taking pills called NSAID's (like ibuprofen) but other people say no, especially in older people as they often cause stomach problms such as ulcers.

Many people have said to me that lots of different alternative therapies have worked for them, such as faith healers or Reiki. This is variable, and some people say they work, otehrs not, so it's up to you whether you try it.
