Do you think it should serve food...if so what kind?

I think a good bar should be comfortable - there should be lots of squidgy armchairs and settees and coffee tables - a nice big roaring oopen fire in the winter would be good too. There should also be the more normal tables and chairs & I like big round tables where lots of friends can fit around - there's nothing worse than going out as a group of say 8-10 people and not being able to sit together - or having to move tables or lean down the table to talk. I like food in bars at lunchtime - hot pies and traditional english grub! In the evenings I like to eat olives, tortilla chips and dips - nice little nibbly things - mushrooms in breadcrumbs are lovely and are delicious with a pint of guinness.
There should be music - but it should be background music and nice and mellow - defniitely not so loud you cannot hear yourself speak. Also, I've always thought that it would be a good idea to have lockers available - after work it's a pain to have bags to keep an eye on - secure lockers might encourage people to stay longer! Definitely don't like fruit machines in bars - but pool tables can be quite nice. Hope this helps!

I love a neighborhood bar with a great chef. so yes, the food helps.
people out drinking get the munchies. plus if the food is good enough without necessarily being fine dining people will often actually stay for dinner then continue hanging out and drinking.
Big Televisions are good. At least two of them. That way if there is a big game on everyone can watch, the tv should have the captions turned on because of course this great bar has a great jukebox. the music choices vary from old stuff to new. clean bathrooms. pool table. these are some of the things i like in a bar. are you opening one? if so good luck!

Air conditioning
Great music that's loud enough to dance to but not so loud that you can't chat
Lots of seating
Enough bar staff
Interesting range of drinks and knowledgable bar staff
Near other bars so you don't have to trek miles in your dancing shoes to go there
Nice toilets that are kept clean and tidy all night (if I owned a bar my top priority would be to employ someone to check the loo roll situation regularly)
Food service should be until about 8 probably because after that it's annoying if you want to sit down and can't because people are eating and the smell of food is everywhere.

I think every bar needs music, a pool table, and darts. I think bars should serve food like appetizers (mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, french fries and so on) because everyone knows or should it's never a good idea to drink on an empty stomach.

Atmosphere makes it great. Aesthetics are a must! Yes, food is good as well as long as it's good bar food. Nothing too over the top and it must be able to be eaten with the fingers. Also helps to have great service.

The people in it! The quality of the drinks, and the price, first and foremost, but I'm a great proponent of the spit and sawdust old fashioned pub where you go to TALK. A good pool table, but no TV, and food should be simple cheap fayre. None of this gastropub rubbish! There's a great book, beer in the evening, if you are based in London.....

Has to have a great wine selection, preferably at least 10-15 whites, 10-15 reds, 5 rose's and at least 5 champagnes. Classy looking too, all bar one is a favourite of mine

I think that it is the people that you are with that turns a good bar into a great bar.

Good wine, proper cider (none of this Strongbow or Blackthorns stuff!), no smoking, being able to hold a converstaion without shoutin at the top of your voice and good atmosphere. Good food is an option but cleanlines is a must!
