because they think ghosts exist.

It's a deep-rooted psychological thing. Anyone with a sane mind knows that ghosts don't exist, but from a very early age we're indoctrinated into a variety of religions that all promise a wonderful afterlife. Even the Bible talks about the 'Holy Ghost'.
In reality when you're dead, you're dead. Everything ceases uincluding the 'soul' or whatever we choose to call our conscious being. Unfortunately as humans we cannot accept that death is 'The End' so we cling on to the ridiculous belief that we will live on forever, even though our physical body will rot away to nothing eventually. So because people have this belief they can ascribe anything unexplainable to the 'paranormal' which, to them, 'proves' that ghosts exist.
There has never, ever, been a confirmed sighting that can be substantiated. People claiming to have seen a ghost may have seen something, either tangible or imaginary, but it certainly wasn't a ghost. Just think logically:
If ghosts exist:
Why are they always transparent and seen in the dark?
Why do we not see ghost insects, animals, birds and fish?
Why do they not communicate with us and tell us what it's like 'on the other side'?
Why do they not confirm or deny the existence of God?
Why do they appear to so-called 'psychics' , but no-one else, when they want to send a message to a loved one?
Why do they wear clothes? (We are born naked and when we die the clothes don't die with us)
Why do they not appear in the same state their bodies were at death?
How come they make sounds, like wailing and crying, but do not talk?
How come some have clanking chains, are the chains dead too?
So there you have it. There is no reason to believe in ghosts as far as I am concerned. You will have to decide for yourself.

Because the human mind is always curious and fascinated about the unknown like the exploration of Deep Sea,Deep Forests and Space. Similar is the subject of Ghosts. People believe that when there is something Good there is always something Bad for comparison atleast. And we believe there is no harm from the Good and we expect harm from the Bad (Ghosts). Thats the reason for the belief.

Some do and some don't I haven't had that experience yet nor would I want to, have seen shows on discovery and travel channel, The idea of a ghost haunting me gives me goose flesh.

Because they are real. I saw one. I was in an old house and when I came out of my room early in the morning I saw a woman in old clothes walk down the hall and go into another room. I asked my host later about it and he said there was no one else staying on that floor but me.

Because sometimes we hear or see things we cant explain, and decide that it must be God or the supernatural.
