It depends on what you consider money really. If I get what you're asking, we're at the start of a new wave of exchange. Plastic is becoming so prevelant that it's starting to replace cash. In a couple more decades don't see very many transactions being made in cash, unless both parties don't want any paper trail. Who knows what for electronic transactions will take in the future as the technology evolves for efficency and security reasons. One option that people might have soon is RFID tags with their account information in them for use with those paypass devices.
I think as far as the types of currencies go, globalization will have a bigger impact than technology. Look at Europe for example. Because of globalization Europe now has the Eropean Union and the same currency in just about every country. Maybe down the road every counrty will use te same currency because of globalization. It's just another slightly different game for the bean counters and the corperate world is all. The only effects most people might feel are a few changes to their investment options and loan opportunities.
