The quick answer to your question is "We aren't all created equal in modern terms."
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." (Declaration of Independence, July 2, 1776.)
Equal in that context means that, in the setting of governmental policies, the preference of each citizen should be assigned an equal value. And since then, Americans have thought to adopt a number of equality measures-- through the U.S. Constitution, federal law, state law, etc.-- that provides for individual equality in political matters. Equal access to justice. Equal opportunity in hiring. Etc.
But the simple fact is that we are not all created equal. While the poor person and the rich person may each have a vote for political candidates that is equivalent, the poor man must necessarily spend much of his time surviving while the rich man is in a better position to spend only a little of his time on survival and other parts of his time and money contributing to the victory of his desired political candidate.
And we obviously are not all born into the same set of circumstances. Some of us have better access to a healthy upbringing, a good education, and the resources necessary to thrive. Others must struggle with inadequate parents, poor living conditions, a lack of education, and all the negative effects of poverty. Whether or not people make good choices to lift themselves out of disadvantage, the fact is that many start out there-- and that such a a position makes them less able to act effectively within the American political system, at least for a time.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease-- but only if the wheel is big enough to run-over a politician somewhere.
That said, wealthy people who obtained their wealth through honest and moral means deserve the benefits of it. And if they act benevolently for the good of their community they also deserve the political influence that may go with it. As a society, we must reward those who-- when able to choose what they will do in life-- help their fellow human beings instead of wallow in the "inequality" of their existence.

In the eyes of the mother all the children are equal, similarly in the eyes of the god all his creations are equal, but not in real life, we all differ.
We all have different capabilities, bodies, languages and colour. Mentally we all differ also.
Its the same as saying that God Created us in his own image, but if you believed in the theory of Evolution then you would not believe that God created us in his Image. Man evolved from an ape and thus God cant be like an Ape.

Its rather simple. Although we were created equal; what people do with their gifts and talents is what determines their success.
Someone who chooses to be lazy wont make much but someone who is aggressive and sets an attainable goal is far likely to become more successful. Case and point: Look at our(USA) welfare system. MOST people on it are on it by choice. They could goto college(and in many cases for free paid for by the government) to make something of themselves but they like the something for nothing lifestyle. I guess my point is is that its CHOICE. People choose their own destiny.

Of course we really are created equal. Most of us are working on treating people equally. Some of us are more successful than others. The people who have the most to lose are (generally) the ones who don't try as hard. Power and wealth are addictive, and many will sell their souls to keep and increase their position.

1. We are all equal to God, which is different than the classic Monarchy that said the King and the nobles were special to God.
2. If you work hard(or don't) your position will change, which is different from "Classed" societies like the British had when America was founded.

Everyone has their own minds and they make their own choices in life. Some people make bad choices and some don't. Some people are just lucky in life and others are not. i'm in the middle class almost in the poor class by choice. I chose not to go to college and get a good paying job.............
