I wouldn't say they are any different than people in real life. In real life people wear more masks, hide a lot more I feel. It is harder to talk about personal things in real life and people act more polite so you don't really get to know them deeply.
I think online is just a bigger market, it is easier to find people that match you and easier to eliminate them.

Each one has a fantasy figure, we pretend to be that on the net, and of course, it is our inner instinct to meet other fantasy figures, hence we go on making friends.
