I agree with, likes Eeyore..it helps some, but when they are new the excess dye will come out in the wash
If you never want them to fade, have them drycleaned.

This works for blue jeans too. The first time you wash them make sure the water has salt in it. Yes you should babysit the washer and add salt to all of the cycles. A hand full of table salt in each cycle. Or, you can soak them in salt water and let them drip dry before their first wash. The salt sets the dye. Also Cheer makes a detergent specifically for black dyed clothing. Works pretty good. I like the salt fix though.

turn them inside out, it's the wear in the dryer that fades the most. Also usecool water.

some colors get faded when they are exposed to sunlight so dry them in a cool place

cold water separate wash mild detergent(woolite) for darks

They have special detergents out for dark colors now.
