I don't think that smokers should be treated worse than common criminals. Because basically that is what is happening now. Even prisoners can smoke in their jail cells and smokers have to stand in the middle of the street on breaks and what not just to have a smoke. Come on now.. sure second hand smoke is not good for others, but why are smokers treated so bad when there are other things out there that should be taxed or banned. Think about all the taxes that smokers pay and the money is supposed to go for things to make our states have better roads, but the roads still suck. Why should smokers be constantly taxed? People who smoke and drive aren't causing deadly car accidents. Maybe drinkers should be taxed like the smokers have been on all their beer, wine, and hard alcohol, then maybe there wouldn't be so many fatal car accidents or DUI's and such.I own and drive a car and YES I smoke in it. It is mine I paid for it and I will smoke in it if I so choose to do so. And no I don't think smoking should be banned. And if you are banning things that are detrimental to others health then maybe perfumes and colognes should be banned from public places also because they can cause an asthmatic a horrific asthma attack and people don't seem to care about that. I know people who have actually gone into respiratory failure because they were exposed to someones perfume. So you tell me where is the justice?

theres not hundreds of people killed by cars each day. check your stats.
yes i do own a car, and yes i think smoking should be banned. exhaust fumes dont do as much damage as excess smoke from cigarettes (again, another statistic). and anyway - if we didnt have cars, how would we function? the public transport system isnt capable of supporting the whole nation, and that in itself causes a lot of pollution. so whats the alternative? we cant all walk everywhere - some places are just too far.
i think its a little bit much to expect people to give up their cars. driving and smoking are on two completely different scales - they just cant be compared.

The concentration of smoke from a car exhaust outside is much lower than that from 20 smokers in a pub or a handful at home.

I think smoking should be banned but not for the environments sake. Because I hate breathing in other peoples smoke and I hate paying NHS to support the £2 billion approx cost per year to treat smokers (when a large proportion of those are people on the dole who don't pay NI) and I hate the fact it killed my gran and my mum is going the same way. Cars cause damage to the environment yes but they don't needlessly kill myself or others.

I think smoking is more bad for health in the short term than polution from a car.
I don't own a car, but I know i'd rather be standing next to a running car than a smoker.

I am an ex smoker I drive a jaguar but unlike the previous answers I realise the difference between self harm(smoking) and destroying the planet. How many cigarettes would you need to smoke to compete with a 1 hour drive in my jag. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

I don't think smoking should be banned. I live in a state where we are not allowed to smoke in public buildings referring to another answer. I also own a car and I drive it. I think the air pollution from the emissions is worse for the environment.

I'm longing for the day when we can go to work by horse and car again! When we all live near to our place of work, when the groceries are delivered by a boy on a bicycle ... it's a dream.
I don't smoke, don't/won't drive. Cadge lifts, use taxi's, Tesco's internet shopping instead. Send my children to the local school - make them walk! and I have a compost heap.

What one has to do with the other is my question.
I think smoking should be banned. I also think the govermant should legislate tighter polution control restrictions. As for today I do not allow smoking in my house nor do I drive my car there.

I think smoking should be banned because it stinks and makes me stink after a night out. The second my car starts leaving an odour on my clothes, its gone.
