I'm going on a one-day trip to London (from Denmark) and would like to stock up on the typical British foods to take home with me. I would like to find a well-stocked supermarket like Tesco Extra or something like that, but not too far away from the city centre (i.e. 10-15 minutes away by tube from Leicester Square, for instance).

Any suggestions?

If you want to buy "typical" British food, in other words the kind of thing ordinary people buy, then avoid Harrods. The food halls are very impressive, but they sell far from ordinary food, at far from ordinary prices!

Best ordinary supermarkets in central London are probably Tesco, or try Sainsbury's or Waitrose if you can find one.

Marks and Spencer also have very good quality food markets, although a little more expensive than the normal.

there is been a huge exchange in recent times, with supermarkets beginning smaller branches (like Tesco Metro, which needless to say you comprehend of) throughout substantial London. you certainly won't could desire to catch a tube to get to one. there is often one interior of walking distance. for example, on Tottenham courtroom street on my own, there are 2 branches of Sainsbury's and one Tesco, and yet another Tesco merely down a sidestreet. anyplace you walk, you're in all probability to attain a nicely-stocked food market interior of 5 or ten minutes!

If you have a bit more money to splash (in fact a lot) spoil yourself to Harrod's food court, their food is excellent. Harrods is at Knightsbridge station (Piccadilly line)
