Darwin, Northern Territory. The City's been completely rebuilt since Cyclone Tracy, it's very new but lacks character. Head south to Lichfield National Park for the waterfalls in the wet season(christmas), Kakadu for the crocs, wetlands, aboriginal art. Katherine is very friendly and the gorges are well worth the visit. It's about 300 km south.

Mindil Beach Markets every Thursday night in the Dry are great. Aquarium on the wharf is seriously bad. Museum has some good stuff. Casino, if you like that sort of stuff. The Territory Wildlife Park is really good. Berry Springs. But, as others have said, the best bit about Darwin is the stuff around it, such as Litchfield and Kakadu..
