They are corrupt and cowardly, as can be readily seen by the spin, masks and veils corrupt politicians, racists and other hateful, fear-promoting wrongdoers ALWAYS wear, and hide behind. They will attack anyone, even innocent veiled Muslim ladies, to gain power and will happily disguise their attacks behind the screens of 'communication' and 'integration' because people have short memories and are easily fooled.<><><>Jack Straw has been hiding behind spin, masks and veils for years, and this disgraceful power-hungry chap has no desire whatsoever for truthful communication or genuine integration with veiled Muslim ladies, or anyone capable of searching questions...least of all with people like yourself who, going by your questions and answers so far, are trying to promote peace, harmony and love throughout the world!<><><>Wasn't Jack Straw the foreign secretary responsible for the murders of so many innocent Afghans, Iraqis, and our own beloved soldiers? Where was his love of transparency, communication and integration then? When did he last tell the electorate the truth about the wars, hatred and terror which he and his colleagues have helped create in the past few years?<><><>You have done well to ask an honest and intelligent question, Peacemaker. But I think you are wasting your time and energy spreading peace, harmony and love here in Yahoo! Answers. People here generally hate Muslims and, apart from a few decent souls, will not even grasp the importance of your question because they wear veils of ignorance, hypocrisy and prejudice.<><><>Peace...to you and those with pure hearts.

I'm not sure Jack Straw has attacked veiled God fearing muslims (Whilst I'd be reasonably confident that "UK racists" probably have).
Your question implies that Jack Straw is aligned with UK racists which (whilst I'm not a huge fan of his) I don't think is accurate.
My understanding is he made a request that a Muslim woman remove her veil, something he was as entitled to request as she was entitled to refuse. I certainly regret that this has become a "story" as it allows racist idiots to sing their usual song and allows Muslims to feel isolated and defensive.
As an aside one aspect to the promotion of love peace mutual respect that to me seems vital is the integration of communities . Not sure, for example, how anyone can defend segregated faith based schools and still claim to be interested in fostering cohesion and unity between people of different faiths in the long haul.

Our rules have to be abided by or their will be no point promoting anything let alone love, peace, understanding, respect and harmony, if it was necessary for those ladies to wear those veils I am sure we could accommodate their beliefs, but as it is not a necessity or requirement then what is their problem, either live by the rules or go somewhere were you can.

NO i don't think it's an attack on our God fearing Muslim ladies..no i will not buy that...
Covering ones face is not in the teaching of Islam ..nor
it is written in Koran that every female should cover there faces in a veil..it's a individual preference ..and no every Muslim female cover them selves up in a veil ..
We are living in a Western society we made this place
Home ..should we not at least try to fit in with the western society..removing the veil dose not make anyone less of a person nor will anyone be committing a sin..
It is not compulsory to wear a veil ..
I personally think it's a shame for a person to hide there face ..it's God given and it's normal in a society that we live in ..our Muslim ladies should show there beautiful
Faces ..it will also stop racist animals( PIGS ) from making stupid remarks ..sorry but true if we want to fit in

All Jack Straw did was ask, when interviewing women wearing a veil if they could remove it. He didn't force them to take it off or anything, they had the choice.
Some Muslims are making out that its the most terrible thing to do, but to tell the truth I didn't even know that it was an offense to the Muslim religion to ask.
It seems to me that its just some people of the Muslim faith kicking up a fuss about something so small as a question.

This sounds alot like the whole problem here in the states with immigrants from Mexico coming here and not wanting to learn english. I think that it's a view that racists will take to as well as non racists for other reasons. Although if you are going to someone else's country, you should try to adapt. But thats my own personal opinion, and I'm just a stupid teenager. lol

When I lived in muslim countries, I covered up becasue it was respectful, I didn't need to be asked. Nowhere in the Koran does it actually say women have to wear veils, just to be modest. And every report in how to increase trust says show your face and your eyes, they are just owrried that dressing differently makes them a target for racial tension and all they are doing is trying to subdue that.

i have to say that i think you are taking qhat he said the wrong way, all he meant was cant they take off there veil when speaking to people and such like out of politness, that way we can see who we are speaking to a not have to fear them.
i understand that the veil is a religious thing, but we all have to live in this world and abide by its rules as well as gods rules.

Peacemaker, If Muslims in the U.K. wanted to cut their babies' heads with knifes, would that be alright with you? Afterall it is their "culture and religious tradition" to do so.
If Muslims wanted to carry out a public stoning, would that be o.k. with you? You seem to be sensitive to their needs and wants.
Who are you to decide which part of their religion they can and can not practice?
